Carol Schram: Better defensive depth allows Vancouver Canucks to move on from Alex Biega Now with a promising crop of young defensemen stashed away in the AHL, the Vancouver Canucks moved on from their depth defenseman Alex Biega on Sunday when they dealt him to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for winger David Pope.

How long before Sven is back in our lineup?

Would like to see us a lot more aggressive on the forecheck than we've been so far. Definitely expected more out of Ferland, but he may still be recovering from the flu he had. Will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

He's more useful than LE so the sooner they swap those two out the better. Maybe when Motte returns.

Probably sooner than expected if the team’s scoring struggles continue. Unless JB is trying to “Biega” him as well which is totally possible, it would likely have to be a Gagner-Spooner type of deal.

If they are not sending LE down and Sven gets injured down in Utica, the Canucks take their portion of the cap hit on the books instead of being able to LTIR him. Correct?

Miller and Myers have impressed, so it's only a matter of time until Ferland becomes the new whipping boy of this team.

Biega meltdown all over Twitter, hilarious.

Some of these people need to explore life outside Mom's basement FFS.

I don't see the point in swapping Sven for a comparable player given that he has shown strong chemistry with Horvat over the years and even some with Gaudette this year. Seems like if you need to call someone up he would be easier to slot into the middle 6 than someone who hasn't played in Van before.

Sven is a hit away from retirement, that and salary is why he cleared. So yes if you can get an asset.

That would be LTIR on the Canucks. They are better covered with him on the team if they can't trade him. It's best to move him if he's not on the Comets though.

Bad luck in the pool for week 1. Malkin out long term after only one game. Rotating goalie starts and Pointe still out.

i dont like this arguement. ferland has a similar concussion history and plays a physical game that would make him more susceptible to another

i agree with the salary reason though. hes too streaky and invisible when cold for the price

I think they're trying to move him. It won't be easy.
