Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks get outplayed by Oilers stars in season-opening 3-2 loss There were some bright spots in the Vancouver Canucks' game, but a spectacular game-winning goal by Connor McDavid led to a 3-2 loss on the scoresheet as the Canucks kicked off their 50th anniversary season in Edmonton on Wednesday night.

The Oilers will be much better under Tippett, they'll be fighting for the second wildcard spot.

Coaches need to rethink their shotblocking mandates... gtfo the way & let the goalie see the puck - these sticks aren’t wooden Sherwoods anymore. Even dudes built like Olive Oyl can pump it now.

How is WPG going to be in that position with a decimated defence?

Because they have a dynamic offence who have the puck most of the time and their goaltending is above average.

Nice to see so much traffic in front of the Edmonton net.Sutter isn’t going to contribute to possession, seems like a great call to plant him netfront.

Not last year it wasn’t, my buddy from Winterpig started calling him “hellabunk” might have just been an off year of course.

I hope he gets his speed back as he gets back into game shape. If not, then he should definitely be moved to RW

Wow.

Larsson did finish the game - played 22:19. Taking a page from Chris Tanev's book!

As I mentioned in the blog, he had three blocks in that first-period sequence, on a shift that ran 2:13.

He blocked shots from Ferland and Boeser as well as Hughes on that shift, as well as one from Eriksson in the third period.

The Eriksson “shot” probably helped heal the injury.

True enough!

I just went back and re-watched that shift. Larsson did go down off the Hughes shot, then tried to get to the bench but retreated when the Canucks kept the puck in the zone. It looked like he was able to get the Ferland and Boeser shots with his skate blade. Was still moving pretty well and directing traffic. Didn't look obviously hobbled.

There's a few on here that are certainly "hobbled" but they continue to post

Yeah, I remember that sequence. I think he even yelled out a non-family friendly word when he got hit by the Hughes shot
