Stoked for the habs/leafs back to back next week. Wish Poehling was healthy! wanted to see him and Suzuki play vs some of the best in the league!
Watched some of the leafs preseeason, there are some changes on how they play d, i like the transition from D to off, and the active sticks is huge. That neutral zone gets clogged fast! Curious to see if the habs speed can exploit the bottom 4 def from the leafs, well see!!

Sandin is making the big club.
Matthews and Co. are already talking about him like he’s a part of the team. Once he gets into that circle, he’s in. |

Not this year he's not. At least, not for more than a short stint (9 games?).
Frankly, I think Lillybust has a better shot at playing more this year than Sandin based on his right-handedness and the Leafs relative (poop)iness on that side.
Then again, there's all kinds of cap implications to the both of them playing any extended time, no? (e.g. bonuses and such) |

I think Auston is the X factor here..
If he wants him in the team, and by the way he talks about him he does, then it’ll be really hard for Babs to say no. |

You may think that..
But what Babs gives (frank)s about is his job. Idk if you’ve noticed, but his stick has gotten smaller. Matthews will be captain. He means far more to the organization than Babs does. When push comes to shove, Matthews has a lot of say.
None of this will probably matter because Sandin is good enough to play his way on to the team. |

Even Crosby doesn't have he final say. He gives his opinion but that's where it ends.

Sandin gets 8-9 games, whatever the max is for his contract to still slide. Dermott comes back,, and he goes down to play top 2 minutes with the Marlies. His real chance to shine is next year, after 5/6 of our top 6 go to FA / RFA. |

Obviously..
But they have a lot of pull.. Players and coaches spat all the time, and Matthews and Babs have already. If it starts to go sideways, Babs would be inclined to give Matthews what he wants opposed to getting fired. |

Matthews is not going to dictate who is playing D on the Leafs.
With Sandin the Leafs may give him a legit look for 9 games. At most, they'll give him 39 games. The Leafs will want to be very careful in how they approach his big club use in terms of sliding his contract or risk having him hit UFA sooner.
No way the kid plays more than 40 unless he is absolutely ridiculous - in such a way that it literally pushes Dermott out of the lineup (upon his return). |

Is that the kind of feeling youd want in the room? Dont get me wrong, every player has an ego and Crosby could have been seen as a coach killer, but hes such an even keeled dude; wouldn't you want more of a even team guy in tavares? Sort of a Toews kane comparison? Matthews comes across as its all about him. Tavares has won with todays best leaders all being on the same team; id argue he might have a better grasp on the team concept and how to get the best in his team mates. |

Everyone has their formulas as to why they think he’ll only get 10 games etc..
Babs says it over and over again.. If he’s one of our top 6 players, he’ll play. I want the players who give us the best chance of winning. People are oblivious to how good this guy is. He’ll be a star in the NHL soon. |
|

No cap implications. Covered off last night by Freidman during intermission. Sandin has no bonus clauses. Straight salary only.
He will get a good chance for games and depending on how Dermott comes back and gets up to speed. Think he might just stick here. Never know. Its early yet too. Some moves/trades could get made.
Kask on waivers to Marlies but have to just see what goes on with Neuvirth here tonight. First shot blows a hroin etc that will be a game changer for sure. |

Babs is all about having 3 right-handed RHD and 3 left-handed LHD. He's not going to shift any of his LHD to accommodate Sandin cracking the line-up and he sure as hell isn't going to experiment with him playing the right-side.
He plays 9 games or 39 games... or no games. |

I don’t get that impression from Matthews. I think he’s a good guy who cares about his teammates. I have no issues with him being captain.
Tavares is more stoic and boring.. But that doesn’t make you a better captain.

What if Sandin is better than Dermott?
Do we trade Muzzin?
