That’s why I think he’s overrated in these parts.

It doesn't help when they don't play the type of speed game that helped him thrive his first two years here.

JJ has been a bad player for 13 seasons. You think being paired with a so-so #6 dman is going to somehow click?

Sadly, this isn't algebra; two negatives don't equal a positive.

Schultz's relative corsi and fenwick were both over -7% his first year. Same as this year. That's so bad, Jack Johnson hasn't accomplished that since his rookie year.

If we're talking analytics, Schultz is bad. When his team has the puck, he's good, but he doesn't drive play. Like Boyd said, he's over-rated here, but he does have a career PDO over 103 here so that helps.

Pitts are done...

Jack johnson is definitely the sign of apocalypse for that whole organization.

Crowds will die off again and that weasel kemieux will once again threaten to move the team.

See ya losers!!!

Sucking the life out of everyone is classic, I agree though. The Pens will not make the playoffs this year, you heard it here first. Trading Kessel was a gigantic mistake and you will see the power play struggle with Phil the Pill. JR is destroying this team! IMO

Injuries have derailed him. He has never been the same since the big season when he broke out. I doubt he ever returns to that form.

My god, you’re miserable. It’s funny, while you wince and moan, both Johnson and Gudbranson still get paid and do what they love for a living.

Maybe just maybe, they’ll play their asses off for Pittsburgh and some thankful fans (and not embittered bloggers) will appreciate it.

Coming from a Canuck fan this is a hilarious statement. Slip and Slap probably adored Guddy in Vancouver, lol He sucks and sucks almost as bad as JJ

I actually enjoyed this. I knew those 2 were bad, but it was almost refreshing reading this from a Pens fan gracefully trashing the bottom pairing.

Either I missed it or forgot that JR drafted JJ way back in 2005. His obsession with JJ makes more sense in that context.

This may rub some the wrong way (and I get it), but I think I'm at the point where I am going to root against JJ. I just want him not to be in the lineup anymore and the sooner they send him down, the better. They sure as hell aren't trading him unless they attach a high draft pick with him, and JR doesn't want to do that.

This is coming from someone who didn't think JJ would be/is as bad as people were making him out to be until later than most (holding out hope, I guess). He just doesn't think the game at an NHL level. I'd really love to know what Sully sees in him that we don't.

That is the biggest thing with him... He has all of the "tools"...size, speed (he just hesitates A LOT), a shot, can pass accurately...but he honestly has no hockey sense.

At least Gudbranson came in last year and just played a simple game. Hopefully, though I'm not counting on it, he finally just "gets it." Johnson is just objectively bad at the NHL level. Awesome that he finally made his money back at least lol...just too bad it was at the Penguin's expense.

Not happy about big G getting placed with little J. But the fact that it leaves Ryan Wilson and his band of merry fart sniffers screaming WHY WONT YOU LISTEN TO MEEEEE!!!! is still funny so there is a silver lining.

Have you read much of his stuff before? All that he does is bash Johnson lol. Gudbranson played decently last year so he got a bit of a bye during the season at least. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Every team has a third pairing D, and while few are great, ours actually isn't the worst (as shown by RWs stats), they're just a bit overpaid (GOOD FOR THEM!).

The narrative used to be about how great players elevated those around them. Either that has changed, or the Pens' great players aren't somehow able to do this , or the narrative is just tweaked by the loudest to suit the loudest, I honestly don't know...

Some folks here think the Pens won't make the playoffs... BAH! humbug. But if they don't, it won't be JJs fault. Rather it will be the stars' fault, just like last season.

except for Sid. GO PENS !!

I just hope JJ and Guds smash people and clog the lane without getting too much out of position. I would be fine with 14 mins a night to start with. Can't be that hard to make it at least serviceable.

Yes, agreed 110%. Smash people... wear them down, block shots and get the puck up the boards. Basic D, which is all anyone should expect from a third pair D.

And keep Riko and Ruw very close by (give them games early) to push them all season... no guarantees.

JJ has shown zero evidence in 13 seasons of being able to play good defensively.

I honestly think a third pair of:

Rikk-Rud would be better than JJ-Gud

So, with this said, how HAS the guy managed to craft an NHL career of 13 seasons?? Seems just a bit harsh... or inaccurate...?
