Really, Spurgeon got the biggest contract in Wild history? What about those matching contracts for Suter & Parise which are much bigger contracts.

Suter and Parise made an incredible amount of money thanks to the wild, they are still on those old fashion long term, cap friendly deals.

It's a higher cap hit so I guess he's right from that standpoint, but I assume most folks would agree that $98m is a tad bigger than $53m.

Why do the Leafs have to pay Marner more because he plays for Toronto? Would he not get the same coin if he played for Colorado? Why? That seems to make zero sense

It’s also a bit misleading since Parise and Sutter received $25M in signing bonuses over the first three so thief effective salaries are were $12M the first two years.

Even now they’re being paid more. For this season $9M. The cap hit is just reduced since they’ll be paying them for another 6 years.

Anyone else remember when the Wild signed these two matching mega deals? That to this day are still 2 of the biggest contracts in the history of the sport. Then less than 2 months later Bettman has Craig (frank)ing Leipold with him when he delivered his lockout speech about the untenable nature of escalating player salaries.

No irony there whatsoever.

quote not work.

you are right it makes no sense that Toronto would have to pay more. If Ek is really trying to say that all those teams would have only offered Marner $8.8 million I think that's a ridiculous joke. If he is trying to say that Winnipeg would only offer Laine $8.8, and so on that might make sense...Except I don't think Laine is worth $8.8 and I think Point and Rantanen are worth significantly more than $8.8m

Now that I think about it.... it's more nonsense(E5)

the saddest part of it all is you need a new trolling topic. Are you gonna go on for 5 years about how Matthews wants to play for the Coyotes? I think you should go with that. but start out nice and easy...pick up the intensity as the years go on

lol, those cap circumvention contracts were brilliant and totally inevitable. Remember Kovalchuk's 17(i think) year deal. haha He was signed until he was like 65

Makes sense. McAvoy can't be involved. Apparently he's better than Chris Chelios, Brian Leetch, Brian Rafalski and Phil Housley.
