Dispute is several years old and Melnyk's lawyer expressed disappointment that the matter was being publicized when the dispute was close to being settled.

Getting close to the point where Gary Bettman will be obliged to step in and take franchise conservatory measures to realign an ownership situation that has spun entirely out of control.

Ok, here is my question: Assuming that Smith is a more results oriented coach than Boucher, and plays players based on performance rather than misplaced loyalty, and considering the fact that the Sens have so many players that are theoretically NHL ready, why are they going to be so bad? Yes, I do not believe this team will be hoisting the Stanley cup next year (or the near future), but with the group they have, I believe they can field a balanced team, both in defense and up front. My only concern is in net, but even so I can see this team in the top 20s in the league standing at the end of the season.

i think you are right, at least until Christmas.

The Sens will stay with the pack fighting for the last playoff spot. But once January comes teams start asserting their veteran toughness and at that point the Sens will likely begin to fade.

We should also be certain that Dorion will move veteran players at the deadline and he will also try to make sure Sens have a good seat on the stage for the lottery draw.
