Your mathing is worse that max's market value takes.

Yeah well 2 other people beat you to the punch this morning, so I am assuming you had to find a calculator to catch it.

If these reports are true that they turned down 11 million USD for 7-8 years then this is insane. That is over 115 million Canadian and would pay him the same as Tavares and more per year than many other better players in the league.

We simply cannot keep handing out this kind of cash and remain a Cup contender for the future... the only hope we have is if the new TV deal the league reaches with the American networks (NBC) is way better then the last one uncle Gary signed (200 million a season!)

Trade him

He's a grown ass man letting his child dad treat him like a child.

Next contract will be a bigger poop show.

My father in law used to clone his vegetable plants then I guess... you guys are good at this. I can't imagine doing this and having anything survive.
- Aetherial

I suppose you can do it with other plants, never tried. It’s my first time growing so I researched a lot. But, it’s a weed and will grow as long as it has sunlight and water, lol.

I get the sentiment, but we just don't know what has really been the nature of the talks.

If this really is him sitting there and whining about wanting what Matthews got, then yeah, I think you need to look at trading him. That kind of stuff is not going to change.

If this is just him deciding to sit until the last possible moment waiting for the best possible deal, then wait him out. If he isn't signed Oct 1, shop him then.

The NBA deal which is now 3 years old is $978 million a year, it would be hard to imagine that TV revenues for hockey do not increase by 300 to 400% at the very minimum on the next deal.

Agreed - look how much money their players make. It's because of how much money the league makes.

Also, the soft cap the NBA has does help the players, but yeah.. The TV deal they got was great

Didnt 'try' seriously enough apparently - contract would have been signed if they had.

Handing over the keys to the vault is not evidence of 'trying'.

Trade him for a treasure trove of assets.

There's a (frank) ton of teams that have won the Cup without Mitch on their roster.

How good of a leader can Marner be really?

His teams have never got past the first round!

If NYR offer 10.55mln on a 5y deal - if i were Marner, I'd think hard about that.
Nyr with marner have about even chances of winning a stanley cup over next 5y than toronto without marner. And NYC is NYC - and probably interesting to marner to be away from his parents

Thank god the Rags only have 1.1 milly in cap space and only 6 D-men signed.

Any team interested in MM would have to work some trades before getting it done. Which likely means that any team interested in MM would likely look to make a trade WITH the Leafs rather then go the route of an O.S.

If MM is (or becomes) interested in going elsewhere and if some team (say Columbus) is interested in paying the price then Dubas will get a chance to make a good trade. Either way there's no reason to worry. MM will likely be a Leaf but if not then he's a nice asset to "have" to trade.

This reminds me of when we traded J. Beiber to L.A.

I'm glad you brought up Nashville. They have a huge cloud hanging over them right now. Because of the Weber contract, they will likely face a clawback of about $23 million when Weber retires early. That will be about $7.8 million a year cap hit for 3 years, for a player that will not play. Ryan Johansen is 27 and will make $8 million for the next 6 years - he had seasons of 54 points and 64 points with 14 and 15 goals in the first two seasons of the contract - is that the good deal you are talking about?

Duchene will be an ugly deal I think. Turris looks like a horrible deal so far.

This is true. 100% of all Stanley Cups have been awarded to teams without Mitch Marner.

The Preds just got out from the P.K Subban contract, they'll be ok. With Weber, I have a feeling he will be traded back to Nashville, when he is ready to retire and will go on LTIR.
