How does Neal scoring 25 on the top line make the Oilers better? A PTO just did it and they missed the playoffs by a country mile in one of the lowest wild card point total in years.

Also, might want to check Neal's plus minus stats the last few seasons playing on first place teams. He MIGHT net you 3 more goals over AC but will probably cost 20 more.

He won’t be playing on the top line so let’s say he gets 25 on the second line....that’s way better production then we got last season.....not saying he will obviously but still.....I don’t live in a delusional dream world and I don’t have high hopes for Neal but you guys do understand that you have Lucic right? Certainly no prize there either

Good point.

We don’t need another sniper/scorer for the first line. That’s not our issue.
if they’re dragging him around, he isn’t helping. and if he’s playing well, he’s just boosting an already dominant line.

I find it odd how often any winger spoken of is always mentioned alongside Connor. Not what we need!!

We need someone who can actually help the 2nd line/nuge making us tougher to match up with.

Again, I think the trade is a win no matter what he does just for the contract perks alone. But yeah, if he’s not helping on the 2nd line, he’s probably not doing all that much for us.

The feeling of watching Lucic try to play hockey can't be described with words. Such a negative experience that I actually decided against watching games when I knew he was playing in the top-6.

Even his hits are behind the play and barely relevant to what's happening.

The hits stat has always been a meh thing for me....if you lead in hits that’s just means you are playing more without the puck which seems counter productive.....I felt the same way about Lucic as I’m sure many here have as well....I get the feeling that my anger towards Lucic will be transferred over to Kris Russell this season

I'm not trying to degrade the value of hitting. There's something to be said for the mental effect pressuring the puck and hitting can have on opposition players- especially over a 7-game series. Just that Lucic is a prime example of hitting with little cause/impact (at least in the regular season).

There is value in hitting I won’t argue that at all but I will argue against the importance of the hits stat.....I’ll take one great hit at a crucial moment over 7 hits that’s don’t mean or impact anything through out the game

Leaves. LEAVES. Its plural for the singular leaf. How did you witness the leaves win something and still know how to use a computer, or is your nursing home providing you with an online aid?
- Rev

The teams named after a world war 1 regiment called the leafs. Hence toronto maple leafs. Not named after leaves from a tree. Just look at a picture of the jersey lol.

Have they though?

I’m as pessimistic and cynical of an oilers fans as there is. And I fully concede the leafs are in another echelon than the oilers at present. Not even close really.
But what have the leafs accomplished ?

I’m almost 31, so the oilers heyday is before my time (in a practical sense anyway) so I won’t bother Invoking that time period.
but outside of the leafs being decent for a few years at the end of the 90s. (The oilers weren’t terrible then either). They’ve accomplished nothing really.

Haven’t been past the first round since 04.
Haven’t won two consecutive rounds this millennium.
Have they even been to a cup final in since the 60s?
And they aren’t winning division titles either so one can’t say they’re regular season juggernauts running into bad luck

Hell, the oilers have won more playoff rounds during this last ‘decade of darkness” than the leafs have.
And have been to a Stanley cup game 7 more recently than the leafs have won a round.

Even the turn of the century period when the leafs were ok, the oilers won a few first rounds as well. And against the elites at the time like the avs and the stars.

The oilers have been abysmal for ages. And we’re staring another brutal season right in the face. But as a leafs fan, one would think you’d know better than to throw stones considering the house you’ve lived in forever.

- HB77

Yeah the Oilers won a few playoff series here and there and the leafs have lost to Boston a couple years in a row. Boston also made the cup finals this year and leaFs took them to game 7. I want the Oilers to be good as much as the next guy. Just sick of the mediocrity. Also like I said I'm a devils fan.

Oh man, you're in for a treat with Neal. If you thought Lucic was bad, at least he was making hits behind the play. The only relevant thing Neal did all last year was lose all his fake teeth and come back with even better fake teeth.

The only thing Neal did better than Lucic last year was make his team suffer through him 19 fewer times.

And that's more than enough for me Any other improvements on Lucic (which I'm certain there'll be) will be gravy.

Milan can't take a pass, make a pass, shoot, skate, or defend ( as proven the past 2 years). But he can rough someone up when games get tough. He can also clog up lanes when stuck out there with a Kris Russell so pucks are bouncing off of one of two guys. Neal has proven for 1 year that he can't skate or score. I would take the 1 year differential than the 2 year. I would also believe he can score 15-18 more likely than 26+ like some 90 idiot proposes.

Oilers fans expected to lose at least a 1st to shed Lucic, probably a throw in too. Flames fans expected to lose a pick or prospect to shed Neal before this deal went down. If flames fans actually revisited this when it was proposed i think they would be a bit more hesitant about it. But now that its finished, they are expressing optimism. Edmonton fans were happy if they could land Loui Ericksson and got a guy with no protection instead.as fans, i think Edmonton has owned it so far. As clubs we shall see.

Neal isn't a massive improvement over my 11-year-old. You can't upgrade poo with different poo.

- Hunkulese

Lucic is a stationary steaming pile of diarrhea... he brings nothing to a team. His "toughness" is only when he feels like using it... he has hands of stone and he has the super power of dragging an entire line into an offensive abyss.

If James Neal can make like Maroon and bang in McDavid / Draisaitl's rebound then he can more than likely put 20 goals in the net.

Worst case scenario Neal lays and egg and we buy him out to the tune of 1.9 million x 6.

Looch has more cup rings than neal, so naturally is the better player.

Yup, the Edmonton Edgelords continue to shine through. Seeing this, I'm confident that they'll be keeping the same poopty, early-2000s hard rock goal song

Gimme some 'Can't Stop Me Now' or 'Piano Man' for a goal song
