That’s a really good deal. Although him signing at this price for 4 years probably means his back issues are a real problem. No reason for a dman of his caliber to accept so little in this market otherwise.

To some degree Galchenyuk leaving next summer relieves some salary which can be used for Kahun, McCann, Simon, etc. Not the worst possible situation.

Probably wanted the term.

He's cheaper than Calvin de Haan, so that's something.

Canes are over the cap now though.

How about Galchenyuk performing well and staying with us? I prefer this option.

Great deal. Imagine signing Gardiner and not having to worry about losing Schultz as the 2nd pair puck moving defenseman.

Carolina just keeps making smart moves, could be a real juggernaut if the goaltending holds up.

Half the league needs to cut salary. At least they did it with a great move.

Nah. Carolina (analytics heavy team) just capitalized on a market inefficiency. Other teams were clearly not making significant offers to Gardiner.

From some other comments on twitter, he did not get many offers with term. This was the only one from a real playoff team over two years. Easy choice for him.

I agree with Stackthepads. Lots of players would’ve done a 1yr deal and looked for a big payday (reports were out there that a lot of players did that this year but with 2 year deals). To me this means that he’s concerned about his back too and really valued the security. Hopefully he can fix it although so many players do not

I’m surprised nobody mentioned yet that it’s POJ not PJO and there’s an extra i in there. Mistakes happen tho

Pretty crazy Gardiner will be paid the same as Guds.. and pretty much in same ballpark as JJ...even crazier is that those two are on the same team being paid that.

I’m thinking Faulk is the one they try to move for cap compliance, no?

It should be him, or they'll just try and package McGinn and a Prospect for Puljujarvi or something.

We had like 2.4m (give or take) and then signed Riley Sheahan for 900k. So roughly 1.5 left to play with, and looking up McGinn he's 2.1

Only thing prospect camps are good for is finding those guys trying to stand out and running people, then fighting the first guy they see. Look forward to it every year.

Yep that’s why so many nhl teams were lining up to sign the guy. Ohhh wait, you guys know something NHL GMs don’t. Because of a few goofy websites and stuff.
