He scored the one big playoff goal. Scored like 4 total. Played around 10 minutes/game. Not good defensively. Slow. St. Louis has young, faster better players coming.

Splitting hairs here, 900K is like $200K over the league minimum - I think it must have had more to do with St. Louis thinking they had better roster options.

Makes complete sense: It's interesting and probably influenced by the dreadful results of the Lucic contract with the Oilers. It apprears the grit/tough guys with limited offensive skill are not valued much anymore.

Maroon to Tampa for $900k

I like that move for Tampa. Maroon takes alot of heat for not being too fast of a skater. But I noticed him quite a bit in the playoffs. He brings some toughness and snarl. I think he's underrated actually. On a good team his value is noticed more. It's 900k. No risk move.

Back in the summer of 2007 the Red Wings signed UFA Brian Rafalski to replace UFA Mathieu Schneider. That move paid off big time. But in a much smaller move, Holland signed an old Dallas Drake as a UFA and while he wasn't much value during the regular season, he sure was valuable in the playoffs.

Hitting everything that moved and complimenting the Red Wings high end skill with some much needed grit. Red Wings won the Cup that year and Dally Drake retired a Cup champion.

Sometimes it's the smaller moves which pay big dividends down the road.
