Realistically, what could the leafs get for Marner if they were to trade him? Main problem is, not sure other teams will be willing to offer him 10+ mil. Overdrive guys stated it best when they said the Matthews comparison only works in Toronto.

If he goes to Edmonton, is he worth more than Draisatl at 8.5mil? Colorado with MacKinnon at 6.3mil. Tampa with Kucherov at 9.5mil? There's no where he can go that they will make him either the highest or 2nd highest paid player on the team.

But I would be interested to know what the leafs could get in return for Marner.

Canucks will offer Tanev but Dubas will likely have to add.

It’s just such a dumb argument on his part.

He has no leverage with that...he can say he deserves to be paid like his teammate all he wants.

At the end of the day no other GM is making that comparable. There is no market for him to explore with this.

Exactly. He needs to see his comparables to others in the NHL. Unfortunately, guys aren't paid a premium to put up assists. You get paid for goals. Backstrom got 11.28% of the cap after his ELC for a guy who is known for his playmaking. That would be about 9.25 million now. Marner would be lucky with that considering he's not a center.

If we do trade Marner, I'd prefer it to be to Philly. A deal centered around frost and farabee+ for Marner would be a good trade. Frost could potentially be a Marner replacement.
