I think it's safe to say that barring absolute craziness, the Hawks, Canucks, Wild, Kings and Ducks are all but certain to miss the playoffs.

I would trade Gustafsson and get as much back in return. IMO, a team should never let a skilled player walk for free.

If his defense is markedly improved, then he should garner better assets back as he will command a higher salary from whichever team wants him.

The hope, though, is that Boqvist and/or Mitchell live up to potential so one of them can replace him. Not necessarily meeting potential right away but at least showing positively trending development.
