It's the dog days of summer so let's take a look at rock musician all-star teams by decades starting with the 1960s.

I would personally take Jon Lord from Deep Purple over Ray Manzarek. There is something about your Lennon choice makes me want to dispute it. But I honestly can't think of a better option. Plus thinking of McCartney's perfect outlet passes to him makes it too tantalizing! Good list.

Man, I dunno if Lennon melds with your band, but Jimi and Clapton at wing is strong

The Muppet Show was awesome. Animal was always my favorite Muppet. But, I always heard it said that John Bonham was the "model" for Animal. IDK, maybe that was just Zeppelin fans speaking.

Either Bonham or Ginger. Yknow, with the hair and wild man attitude and all

Buddy Rich stomped him regardless

But the original wild man was Moon, Bonham's idol.

He was a huge fan of Krupa, Appice, and Purdie, too. Thank god for Purdie, man. He inspired that half shuffle he used in Fool in the Rain.

"While not the most mobile he could take a lead on the bass like nobodies business".
No doubt, Entwistle would just stand there and shred it. Such an incredible bass player. Perfect spot for him as the stay home D.

That song is all about the drums. I'll never get tired of listening to it.

Fun topic. No Mitch Mitchell on drums? And boy, I hope you're saving Duane Allman for the 70s because he may have been the best ever.

BTW, if you ask vocal coaches/experts, they will probably tell you the best vocalist of the 60s was... Karen Carpenter!

One of the ideas for this is to have some discussion around music. I have my biases on who should be on the list based on style and my ears but I'm trying to be totally open. the 60s is almost easy wait until the 70s and 80s and then 90s.

Are some guitarists great because they were in great bands? Or any artist/instrument player.

Basically you get 12 picks from an entire decade of musicians in rock. I'm going to miss guys who are utterly amazing because perhaps they fall into metal or punk or new wave. The point here is discussion as there's probably a ton we can share about music based on discussing it.

He was an insane slide player, guy was a god but career was short. Hendrix changed the game entirely Duane could have, maybe.

Looks like I was wrong about Dano winding up in the KHL this season. He appears to be AHL bound.
