We all know the hold up is that Melnyk can’t afford to pay SBs

if there is any truth in the underlying chatter about an ownership change come September, it only follows that the new guys would be responsible for any signing bonus.

The Sens probably have to wait till September to get at least one garage sale and two bake sales done to free up some$

I follow most of the media types who cover the sens, and there has been ZERO chatter anywhere about an ownership change.

if you have a link to this chatter please post

There are few things the Senators do well, but re-signing their RFAs to good deals is usually one of them.

I dont really believe this. Hoffman coming of 27 goals and the team just wants to pay 2mil. Stone coming off runner-up for calder and the team just wants to pay 3.5mil. To me thats cheap. Sure, its a good deal for the deal, but that is probably the seed that was planted and eventually grew into Stone and Hoffman wanting out (yes minus the whole Hoffman-Karlsson fiasco).

If im Hoffman/Stone and you try to lowball me cause you're cheap, even if im an RFA, even if it was only one season, im still going to be bitter about it. Guaranteed those players would have gotten better RFA contracts on any other team.

I see a 2 year deal in the $2.7M AAV range.

I doubt that White wants to sign long term given the team's current ownership situation.

Melnyk’s just trying to find a way for him to have a 1 million dollar salary and a 5 million dollar cap hit

I have not seen any rumours on a possible sale of the team. In fact, there is less media coverage of the possibility than we have seen for several years. Yet, I have heard fans and others talking about something coming this fall.

We will wake up on a regular day and an announcement will be made. It will likely happen when people become fully convinced it will never happen.

I don't think there will be any ownership change until Seattle pays its expansion fee. Then it will likely be overnight

People need to calm down about this negotiation... it's pretty clearly about term, as opposed to dollar value, or a willingness to sign. I'd be surprised if anything but a 2yr bridge deal came of it, because there's absolutely no reason for White to commit long-term with just 1 full NHL season under his belt. And with Duchene gone, this season will really be his first chance at having premium minutes and #1 PP-unit time.

The only fans and "others" talking about this have been you... On the prospect comment section and again here. Quoting yourself doesn't count as chatter.

Obviously, your being silly or willfully capricious. Just read this thread or yesterday's.

Do we know the time frame of the expansion payment? That would seem to be the obvious date to circle in the calendar, because there's literally no way Melnyk is leaving that kind of money on the table. To your point, we should start a pool for how many hours it takes after the expansion payment cheque clears for the team to be sold.

On this thread? Where you're the guy that posted twice about it while no one else did? or do consider the garage sale joke as "chatter"?

Or on yesterday's thread where you posted 3 times about it and 3 people said you were full of it? I guess one rando that said "Ya i hear things too" must be an insider also.

Just stop.

I don't normally do this, and I don't wanna be an internet bully, but COME ON, Spasto.

Also, NO ONE cares about the opinions of your relatives at a BBQ. And they CERTAINLY do not represent the reality of all of Sens nation. Quoting the opinions of a small group of inbreds does not reflect what all Sens fans think, feel, and believe.

Sorry, I just couldn't bite my tongue anymore.

Why panicking about white's contract and even chabot? There is more than enough time to get it done.

Get a beer and relax

It is a pretty common technique for monitoring public opinion, actually, far more accurate than citing the opinions of journalists and others who are in the business of reporting on the subject.

For multiple years I have gone to a family bbq at the same time of year involving pretty well the same people over a long period of time. Several are former season ticket owners (as was I), most are avid fans and one has a family member who works for the Sens.

Take it for what it is worth. But the opinions this year about the Sens have softened from the same event last year. Most significant there is a very positive feeling towards the building of a young team and specifically towards some of the individual players. The open and bitter hostility towards ownership appears to be waning and is being replaced by strong feelings of indifference or predetermined neglect.

I came away from the event thinking people want to support the Sens and different folks have concluded that it is entirely possible to support the team but not the ownership. I see exactly the same thoughts and shifts taking place on this and on other threads.

Unless your family BBQ includes members of the Ottawa branch of the illuminati, then I very much doubt this claim.
