I just don't know why Treliving signed him to that much money in the first place. He could've been had for 2.7 million I'm sure. Big overpayment. That's 3 horrible contracts Treliving has signed. I sure hope he's finally learned from his mistakes.

Todd you are a stubborn dude! Why are you counting AHL players in our cap like Quine & Gilles? Magpie should sign for under a mill, he has 44 NHL games under his belt & 15 AHL. So lets assume he does sign for $900K, swap out Mangie for Quine on the roster. Including Dube, that leaves 12 forwards, Tkachuk would be #13, no need to add any more forwards to the lineup. That then leaves 7.0 mill for Tkachuk. But we dont need Gilles, he'll be sent down to AHL with Quine, so add another $750K. So now we have just under 8.0 mill to sign Tkachuk. Carry 1 less D or forward into the season & it can be done doing nothing else. But Im sure a trade is coming. Piece of cake!

Helloooooo cap space. I think we can all also agree that Hunk was wrong again...

Why would they buy him out? He's a solid top six on most teams and a decent top four on a lot of teams. He's easy to trade if they need to trade him and needed insurance if they trade Brodie.

Now let's get Frolik dealt, Chucky and Maggie signed and get this damn season started!

It wasn't a bad deal at the time...he could have got that elsewhere. Injuries really took their toll, Stone was once a pretty solid player.

Watch the Sens sign him to league min. and make him wear 61

Yeah, when he signed he was still arguably a top 4 guy (though I never really saw him as more than a 3rd pairing guy myself).

He'll find a home somewhere, might not be in the NHL this year, but hopefully he finds something.

It was a really stupid signing at the time because they had just traded for Hamonic. Who knows what toll injuries took on him? He lost last season to blood clots, but that's not really an injury and won't necessarily ruin his career. He's can still be a solid player. The main problem with him in Calgary is he is a top 4 guy and they had no room in their top 4 once they signed Hamonic.

He was never very good defensively and was brought in to be an offensive guy. Burying on the 3rd pairing was never going to work.

Great, yet another buyout. If Chucky digs in for all he can, that might actually help this team. I'd rather throw it at him than another UFA bust.

I was wondering if they were not trying to hold onto Stone for when they traded Brodie.

Pretty sure Brodie will not be traded now.

I think all the talk surrounding Brodie's future was just that, talk.

A contending team has absolutely no reason to trade a top 4 d-man signed to a reasonable number, except in case of an offer you can't refuse (a clear-cut top 6 RW, ala Zucker or Palmieri).

I even feel Brodie will be resigned to a 6x6 kinda contract with the expansion draft in mind. Don't forget Giordano is not eternal, and in 2 years our D might look way more shallow than it is right now. And Brodie will undoubtably age better than Hamonic.

I agree with you on not trading Brodie, the only problem right now is with the cap space to sign Tkachuk. I would've thought Frolik would've been traded by now but there must not be a market for him which I'm surprised by.

The more I think about it, the more the idea of a Brodie resigning grows on me.

We will very likely lose Kylington at the expansion draft. There's a also, I believe, a strong chance Hamonic will walk as a UFA, likely to Winnipeg.

Within two years, our D could be going from

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki/Kylington - Andersson

to

Giordano (older) - Andersson
Hanifin - Valimaki
? -?

There's also nothing of any worth in the farm system, except potential depth pieces.

Needless to say, a Brodie resigning could bring a much needed long-term stability to our D corps. Sign him.

Capfriendly took Gillies off the roster so that should help Todd. Quine is still there but it's a start. Calgary is so tight to the cap even if they get Tkachuk to sign a bridge, they probably should move Frolik if they can. If we run into any injuries, especially on D, who are they going to play ? It would be nice if they can add a Dman with NHL experience to a two way contract.

The only reason he isn't a Leaf is that Kadri nixed the trade with his NTC.

What’s Tkachuk going to get?
