Thank you Bill Always enjoy my daily Flyers read. Do you have any opinion to Hagg and his position with the team going forward. It seems the message boards have alot of people not thrilled or at least seem him expendable, I am not a big stats guy but for a young D man I personally had no issues with what he brings to the game and he seems like a respected member of the locker room on top.

Defence is still work in progress .Hagg one element in it
Young and reliable but not much trade value
Maybe a nice sweetener in a bigger trade
I’m not Bill G, but Hagg is still on the roster and it seems like we (fans) don’t have a high percentage rate in guessing Fletcher other then he is a man of action and focused on winning now.
Going into the season with 8 NHL D men is not going to work roster wise. But it can be done. If you did want to go with 7 then Myers has to go down to the AHL which Fletcher already has publicly stated that he sees him in the third pairing (and that he likes balancing his D pairs with LD and RD if he can).
What’s that leave? You either keep 8 D and only 13 F (which is difficult) or you move a D.
Morin is a Wild Card right now to the league but his up side and fit for a bottom 3rd pair is valued in my eyes. The guy in my eyes that gets moved (and I don’t like it) is Hagg. Home gown and is serviceable for sure. Has NHL experience. He can be moved and is a decent player. Hate to see it happening but my reality kicks in and says he gets moved around training camp if their are no major injuries.

I get 13 forwards being an issue, Your bound to hit injuries and having a few options to fill accordingly (someone with offensive kick compared to a pk'er, someone who can take faceoffs and even lh/rh Some of the better coaches like to fill in the cogs properly I'm told our coaching staff should be pretty good about that and LOVE the idea of less tossing the puck up the boards - I just think Hagg has more to give and hate to see him given up on unless the return was good, He's like a younger grossman with more mobility - low maintenance and fairly solid.
Haha. Not super sure myself but I read it a couple times that teams like to have 14F and 7D on a roster (don’t ask me to provide a link. Lmao over years of reading).
I assume it is because of 12 active players verse 6 active players and the amount of injury would be higher to the bigger numbers. Would want guys to be practicing with team ready to go. But like I said. I don’t really know why.
I’m with you MJL on this. I would love not to lose Hagg. He is a decent NHL kid that can get better. I’m just not sure if AV’s back ground that he would feel that going with 8 D in the roster all year is what he would be comfortable with. Most rosters hold 14F and only 7D.

Good post
I like Hagg and would hate to lose him. The practical side is the Flyers were always going to lose someone or have one of them not make the NHL. The good news is that they have hit on all the D prospects to some degree. I have no issue carrying 8 D , unless they get a good deal for Hagg

Yeah, I like him too and don’t get all the Hagg hate. He has been a decent guy for the Flyers.
How long is it plausible to hold 8 D without an injury to the D unit. Would hate rotating two guys in and a guy out from the top 6 getting pulled or having two guys in the press box not getting better.
But rather that then lose Hagg. Would want a decent return for him if he was moved.

I dont see why they have to follow the leader. You build your roster according to your teams needs and not what other teams do. The situation on defense lends itself to the Flyers keeping 8 defenseman. It's not difficult to only have 13 forwards.

Well if it leads to keeping all 8 D then I’m not against it. Just not sure what AV would do. What I would do doesn’t really matter nor do I have that high of a hockey IQ.
I’m not super high on our selection of a 14th forward as us. Unless they sign that Burdasov guy from the KHL. And even then I’m higher in our extra D then forwards (not including the high end prospects here because they are young and wouldn’t want them rotting away as an extra).
Unless Myers is total crap in camp and preseason you absolutely carry 8 dman. That is a no brainer. Obviously injuries on the flyers and other teams, as well as performance will dictate who the flyers move.
You will get a pick or 2 for Robert; or a prospect. I myself don't think they deal any of them until at least mid November unless it is just too good of a deal. If the move Robert it will have no bearing on current or future success of the team imo.
As far as the 13th fwd, whoever has the lowest cap hit is the route i go unless someone clearly stands out
After reading the interviews with the new Flyers coaches, I'm happy to see them mention accountability on the ice and playing a full 200 foot game. Hopefully the Flyers play hard from the 1st drop of the puck, instead of scrambling in the 3rd period to catch up? Coach V also touched on controlled breakouts and having our forwards in position to give the defense an easy breakout pass. The last couple years it seemed like our forwards would be off and running and our defense would have to make too many near impossible "hope" passes to get out of our own zone. That usually ended up with a one and done or a none and done.
I'm not sure what's going to happen to Hagg, but I think Fletcher still has one more move up his sleeve before the season starts.

They all talk about accountability, most never actually enforce it
