Edmonton doesn't work as a trading partner. They have no cap space either. If the Rangers aren't taking back a contract, how do the Oilers sign Buchnevich? If the Rangers are taking back a contract, what's the point?

No one said these trade proposals need to make sense, but if I'm trading Buch, I'm getting RNH back. Trade them Buch and Smith (25% retained) and that pretty much makes the trade cap compliant for both teams.

Embellishing a bit much here, no? As you saw, I said Bouchard would be too high of a target, so I am realistic. Puljujarvi seems to have been mentioned in every possible Edmonton deal the past year.

So much for the dam breaking with the one for Aho, which honestly was poorly constructed by Montreal

If somebody offered Lemeiux a 3-4 million offer sheet, I'm driving him to the airport. Honestly, I think more are coming. Teams have to have the cap space themselves to create a poison pill. I honestly think that's a huge issue. I mean no one has the cap to give that Provorov 9 million offer sheet.

Very poor. All that did was ruin any relationship they had with Carolina, by making Aho eligible for UFA earlier.

Provorov isn’t worth anywhere close to that.

I didn't think so, but at some point he's the most valuable trade chip you realistically have (I don't think there is a GM stupid enough in the world to trade Connor, Drsatil, or Klefbom)

I think it's unrealistic though that we'd get him if you traded him. You'd want to get high end picks/prospects which we have, but we don't have the cap to make that kinda trade.

I agree, but for an offer sheet to work it has to be outlandish in some way. Honestly, if I wanted to offer sheet Provy, I'd offer her 2 yrs/9 AAV. There's no way the Flyers can match, it's not the max draft compensation, and if it blows up in your face you are not stuck for 7 years.

Bergeron did them a favor. No need to haggle over what they were going to agree on in the end.

Offer sheets = Collusion. If there is a hill on which the NHLPA should die on, it’s the absurd offer sheet and it’s even more absurd compensation.

A lot of teams are in the same cap squeeze we are. It’s not ideal but we might be forced to give Namestnikov away for a late round pick and buy out Smith and Staal which I think is a real possibility now that we have a new president. Those guys are not our future. Since they only have 2 years left on their contracts the buy out numbers aren’t that horrible and it would solve our problem.

I’ve kind of figured all along trading Buch would be the last resort (to clear space). I’d hate to trade him now after how he ended last season, he was doing pretty well

But I’d do Puljujarvi and a second for him, as long as they keep Kreider in that case. I’d really like to keep one of those two

I don’t see Staal being here next season, the writing is on the wall. His is the most cost efficient buyout and they haven’t shown any loyalty to anyone, besides Hank pretty much.

Signing bad players to bad contracts is going to cost us a good player. Who would’ve thought.

Trading Buch is completely made up by the writers. JG has not giving up on a single young asset under 25 years old (outside of Pionk who was a FA pickup and 1/2 the fanbase thought he was hot garbage anyway).

There's no way he just dumps Buch for Cap Space.

If Toronto can find trade partners for Marleau and Zaitsev in the same Summer.. We will buyout/trade Smith, Staal, Names, Shatty or Strome before moving Buch.

Honestly, if negotiations are going that poorly with Trouba, I would move him right now before moving Buch too.

In there defense tho, no one expected us to be the position they’re in now

But with that said, they can do this while keeping Shatty. Just gotta figure out who goes

Staal-Nam is a start

I don’t want to keep Shattenkirk, why would anyone want to keep Shattenkirk? So what your saying is, it’s ok to sign bad players to bad contracts bc we didn’t think eventually we would need to sign good players to good contracts?
