I have a hard time valuing that old ass hockey because the on ice product was so terrible in comparison to today.

Accurrate

The discrepancy between the "Best" players and the "Worst" players was huge back in the 70's and early 80's. It made the "Best" players seem a lot better than they actually were. Just take a look at how the Dmen skated back then and how terrible the goalies were

Today, everyone can play and everyone can at least skate. Systems teams play require more talent to break down to create scoring chances

70s and 80s hockey reminds me of Beer league where there's a few guys who used to play Junior and they just dominate. Not because they are exceptional, but because everyone else is just kinda average

You are like diarrhea coming out of a keyboard. If anyone from that “terrible 70shockey” would have transcended into modern hockey it would have been Bobby Orr. Here’s another thought imagine how long Erik Karlsson would have lasted in that era. 2 seasons max before jumping ship back to Sweden. He can barely play in this pansy ass nhl. F off off Im a scum bag. Yeah yeah yeah.

Erik Karlsson would have skated circles around anyone in that era, Orr included.

I'm not sure why any of us reply to Grinder anymore, other than there is nothing else going on here.

If magically Karlsson invented a fitness program 30 years ago, sure.
I guess what he’s saying is that he’d Get hit and interfered a lot without any calls back then.

Don’t chase the guy out. We’ve lost a few guys in here already: Killian, Palmer and another important guy I just can’t remember the name.

If EK was magically put in the 70s he would dominate. The players weren't as good, the defensive systems weren't as good, teams weren't nearly as tight checking, the players on average werent as strong or as fast and the goalies were about 1/4 the size. He'd be well over a 100 points a season.

That's a lot of assumptions Matt lol but I get you. He's a star. I feel the same about Letang if he were from the 70s. I was refering more to the late 80s, 90s though. People would get away with much more.

Yes, with 1 piece solid wood sticks, the red line, gloves that came up to your forearms that limited puck handling, people that could clutch/grab/punch/slash you without any calls, and the lack of any sort of year-round fitness program aside from being an alcoholic and chain smoker.

Now, take EK today (or 4 years ago) with today's training and technology and yeah, he'd be unstoppable. So would most top-6 forwards and top-3 defensemen today.

Only way to evaluate different eras is by their peers, and Bobby Orr was hands-down on another level from his peers.
