You have made that very clear. Ha ha. Braun move doesn’t seem like that big a deal to me. They’re not locked into him past this season and fletcher was able to recoup the 2 round pick. Hopefully he’ll be a good player.
- Dkos

I'm baffled by the thought that they're not locked into him past this season makes it not a big deal. They took on 2.5M in dead cap space in 20/21 and gave up a 2nd and a 3rd to add him. The deal to get a 2nd is a separate and unrelated deal.

Or you could think that having a third pairing of Ghost and Myers would allow them to feast on lower competition, and also more point opportunities by perhaps sheltering them with more OZ starts?

Not a bad concept...

I'd prefer not to have a pair that needs to be sheltered.

You know what I mean, just favoring them getting more offensive zone starts as both have high end offensive awareness and are good puck moving dmen. they don't need to be sheltered, in terms of what sheltering means in the NHL these days, but favoring a few more o zone starts against third and fourth lines, imagine the results

lol, I get Myers and Sanheim may have their setbacks but the D should be much better this year. If it's not, it will be very disappointing. Ghost is the biggest wildcard for me.

I'm expecting progress this year as well. Success on the PP will help his overall confidence.

The buyout of Schlemko was not related to the Braun acquisition. They saved exactly $175,000 in cap space this season by buying out Schlemko instead of demoting him, so they did not need to buy him out to make room for Braun's cap hit. He was bought out because they didn't want him taking up a contract slot and being a 320+ game veteran on the Phantoms.

Why wouldn't a team like Arizona offer sheet a Konecny type player, using him as an example $6M for 4 or 5 years?
- ClaudeFather

Arizona have the 2nd least cap space in the league.

Not referring to the buyout of Schlemko. They bought out Schlemko so Fletcher could add his choice for the #9 defenseman on the depth chart in Prosser. He also takes up a contract slot and falls under the AHL veteran rule.

Just a question because it is all semantics and well I’m bored.

If the 2nd they got back doesn’t count directly as an offset in the Braun trade, which I get.

That as the standard, can you actually attribute AMAC’s dead space to the Braun trade? At the time of the trade they had more than enough space to bring Braun in

Wasn't aware, but i did say like Arizona, a lower cap team. I feel like offer sheets are best utilized on mid cap players on cap strapped teams. In my eyes we are a great target right now, looks like we have just enough room to get our guys under the cap, if someone overpays slightly on dollars we would have to do some serious juggling.

MacDonald's buyout number in 20-21 is $1,916,667. Schlemko's is $600,000.

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flyers

Where are you getting this number from?

They took on 2.5M in dead cap space in 20/21

This one I will never understand, not a good use of a buyout

I get what your saying but it was obvious the two moves were linked. In linking that, I'm not pretending that something didn't happen. I'm not pretending that because the Flyers were able to obtain a 2nd round pick in a separate deal that changes the cost to acquire Braun from a 2nd and a 3rd to just a 3rd.

It's easy to understand. Fletcher doesn't want a player like Schlemko on the Phantoms in 19-20. He preferred to sign various other defensemen to the guy he had to take as the price of dumping Dale Weise back in Montreal.

You're right, I stand corrected. I'm lumping them both together. That is incorrect .1.9M is correct. Thanks.

I think everyone knows the reason why it was done. Doesn't change that it was a dumb and unnecessary move.

You always seem to think replacing bad players with better players was dumb and unnecessary.

Try raising your standards instead of blindly defending keeping trash like Lehtera and MacDonald and Schlemko around.

I don't see how replacing Schlemko with Prosser is worth taking on a future 600K cap liability. In fact I find it troubling that Fletcher thought that was a good idea.

That $600,000 is going to be a killer next summer.
