This crap needs to stop, in all honesty.
Marner wont get $13 million, nor $12 million, nor $11 million dollar Offer sheets....
Aho, who is a comparable player (AND a Centre), was given an $8.5 Million Dollar Offer-sheet by the Habs...AND HE SIGNED IT.
Leafs, are offering between $9-$9.75 Per....which is more than enough. If Marner feels like he should get more, personally, i let him sit, until a trade is orchestrated.
Dubas made the mistake once with Nylander--so he better not make the same mistake again with Mitch. let him sit...until you find a deal that is right for your Organization. - Sandro
I like what Dubas has done for the most part, but I feel like his pride might get the best of him with him saying that all of Nylander, Marner, Matthews, and Tavares will stay. We saw it last year with Nylander with him eventually caving. He admitted it was his fault with Nylander and now Marner really has all the power to just wait Dubas out if he really wants. Marner can just wait till Dubas finally agrees since he won't want to make the same mistake as with Nylander and he won't get what Marner is truly worth if he is sending him to another team unsigned. |

I really hate this crap. Nylander wanted 8.5 per, called Dubas with an hour left in the deadline and took 6.9. How is that Dubas "Caving".
Look at the contracts given out and look at Nylander's stats. Guys with 1 50 point season get 6-7 per. He's a great deal. People will change their tune on that contract this year.
And not sure how you can say Marner has all the power. His side has been dealt a major blow with the Aho offersheet and no offesheets himself which his side was so happy to have reported for a year by Dreger.
And thus far, Dubas has kept everyone like he said. |

Dude, you have ZERO basis for your narrative that Dubas caved. You know absolutely nothing about how the negotiations progressed. |

These people hear other people say it and just repeat it. Nylander wanted nothing to do with 6.9.
2 61 point seasons by age 21. Shot 5% last season. Hello career year coming up!

And Lou gives 1 time 50 point players 6 million.
18.5 million to Eberle, Lee and Nelson is ugly. |

I stopped reading these comments because some of you are dumber than a bag of hammers.
Tyson Barrie and Jake Gardiner don't even belong in the same conversation. Over the last 5 years, Barrie has only been outscored by 5 or 6 Dmen. He is an elite offensive Dman and his defensive game is underrated. Nobody knows just how good he is because he played in a smaller hockey market with very little media coverage.
Morgan Rielly is a bonafide #1 NHL Dman. He scored 20 effin goals last year. 20. He was in the conversation for the Norris. How many 20 goal seasons does Drew Doughty have?
Auston Matthews is absolutely NOT overpaid. He is a CAREER 1.034 points per game. He scores at a 40-50 goal pace every year. He leads the entire NHL in 5v5 goals since his draft year. Everything about this kid screams franchise Centreman.

Is today the day, Ek?
I feel like today is the day.
What are your sources telling you?
Should we be calling today "offer sheet Thursday?"
What's the buzz? |

This.
The very idea Gardiner is suddenly thought of as the same as Barrie is hilarious. |

Think about it Wedgie.
If teams made stuff public when it happened, what would Ek do?
You should have been able to work that out for yourself. |

@ bag of hammers.
Gards ate up some big minutes and that is what is needed to replace in his absense from the team. We have also seen repeatedly where he has had defensive brain farts and cost us dearly. Would I have him on the team still? perhaps, but not at anymore than he currently makes and now with his back health is questionable, but we also have to pony up for AM WN and MM if he ever decides to sign a contract so not sure how we'd even fit him in. But Im also not opposed to him leaving cause maybe he just needs a change. (ask Bozzak how that worked out for him)
Riley is awesome, period. So lucky we have him now for 3 more years at his current contract.
My only beef with AM contract is term. 5 years kinda blows. If he didnt want to do the 8, than Dubie should have pressed for 6.
Big question for me is Willie and Marner. This year while our team looks vastly different on the back end, not sure if its still enough. This season just might be a frank-it and see season while leafs hope the cap jumps to at least 85 mill next season. If not, leafs might be hard pressed to trade Willie (depending on where MM ends up) and this year will be a showcase for him.
People keep saying 2 centers over 10 million and a winger who thinks he should be paid more than those 2 will never work...I think is more like wont work right now, cap has to go higher. |

There is no doubt, offensively, Rielly is already better than Keith has ever been in his career. But Keith definitely has been a more rounded Dman. Rielly still only 25yrs old so time will tell how things turnout. - Cooshie

All you leaf fans comparing defensemen based on points. There is a lot more to playing defense than scoring lol..... Doughty has two cups. He’s obviously doing something else (similar to Keith) that makes him excel. I’ll let you guys try to figure it out. |

Some of you clowns just don't understand that not all dmen fit into the same archetype.
Erik Karlsson is the consensus best in the league and has been over his entire career. But I bet he sucks because he has no cups either.. Sometimes you have to chalk it up to the team they play on, the system they play, and how the coaches implement their game plan. |

Says the guy who just was raving about Jake Gardiner. LOL
BTW, Seth Jones, Karlsson, Hedman also have no cups. Does that mean they suck? Hockey is a team game. A lot of terrible players have cups.
Many DMen like John Carlson get a lot of points but play a sheltered role defnsively. Morgan Rielly has been top 5 in QOC the last 3 years in the entire NHL. this guy plays brutal minutes against the oppositions' best players.

This is an awful lot of attention to a team that cant make it out of the first round. Marner, Matthews, Nylander, and Tavares are all career playoff disappointments.
Columbus and Carolina are closer to the cup the than the perennial first round failures.
Why all the pub? |

Because Ek knows it riles up sad, inferiority complex-afflicted people who pretend they don't care about the Leafs, while constantly appearing out of nowhere to say negative things.
Oh, hi Ripsie - didn't notice it was you.
