If they had an elite center that line could be historic. Thankfully, they don't. That line will still score nonetheless.

Yea Zib is a great 2. Not a 1, but put up 70p on a poop team last year

He'll look a lot better by the end of this season. He could trip over the puck and he'll still wind up getting a secondary assist.

I f'n hate those secondary assists. Made Stepan look like he was close to elite...

VW's aren't reliable vehicles, so we can add that to the analogy. You trust Simmonds to be our 2nd line RW? Heck no. We were talking about Bratt on the top line and Palmieri with Hughes. and what, Simmonds at LW? or 3rd line RW next to Zajac?? Coleman moved to the left side? I want him to make us better, and I'm not convinced he does.

We couldn't give Nyqvist 4yrs at 6mil?? 6.25? I'd do it. He'd actually make the 2nd line better. He'd actually benefit us. Anyone can be a "tough guy". We needed a consistent competent winger for Hughes, not to mention to give Hall some more optimism.

- MartysBetter88

Really the question is what's more unreliable; Jesper Bratt or a VW.

Bratt is a Fiat lol. Nah, maybe a BMW 2 series. still not reliable, but better than Fiat.

I like Bratt but he seems like he runs out of gas by the duration of the preseason. He looks dynamic as hell in the ramp up, and then he slowly fades into irrelevance over the course of the season. He is young and hopefully he'll grow into a consistent top 6 player, but if he is already penciled into everyone's 2nd line winger role, i think we're in a bad spot.

So let me try to understand why you’d want to shell out 6-6.5M for 4 years for Nyquist who’s only broken 50 pts twice in his 8 year career and who has a career high of 28G...5 years ago?

But you’re mad they gave Simmonds $5M for 1 stinking year?

I don't know cars. Can we change the comparisons to something technology related?

because Nyqvist didn't take a LEAP back last year. Because he's not a douchebag. Because he CAN skate and keep up with Hughes and provide consistency and stability to that line.
Simmonds, to my knowledge, can't do any of that. Simmonds is a waste on the 2nd line in comparison to Nyqvist. Simmonds is a 3rd liner at best and Nyqvist is a 2nd line player.

this is why you spend a measly 1 mill more for Nyqvist.

ok. Bratt is like Windows. It works for a while when it's nice and new, but starts to slow down after a while. Simmonds.. is like a 5 year-old Windows machine. Slow, can't keep up, crashes, viruses, etc. how grand.

meanwhile, my 2008 Macbook is STILL going just as it did 11 years ago. Brodeur was a Mac lol. .. which is kind of a pun... that ..sister-in-law and such..

You were doing better with the car comparisons, but I do appreciate the effort. I think you're being overly critical of Simmonds. He isn't going to light the world on fire, but given the choice of him, Boyle, or Maroon, i would take Simmonds. I do agree that he slots better on the 3rd line, but i'll let the coaching staff make that determination. It isn't like he can't be demoted to L3 or L4 if he can't keep up as you fear.

Nyqvist is a 2nd line player.
- MartysBetter88

Dude lay off the pipe.

I understand if you don’t like Simmonds, but don’t overvalue the other guy just to try to force a point that is invalid.

Even $5M for a maybe 50-60 pt guy who might flirt with 25-30Gif he has a career year is an overpayment.

Just calm down, man. It’s one year, it’s about as low risk as you can get.

Simmonds sucks. Sure, the low risk part is understandable but you're getting a player that has quickly regressed. Seems very much like a signing you make when a lot of your other options slipped away.

Team needed a RW with presence and with possession... not sure about Simmonds' possession game, but he can finish and he'll bring presence to the line-up. And improve the PP.

And I stand firmly behind not getting Nyquist. He's a 45 point player who got 60 points last year... he'll revert back to being a 45 point player or worse soon enough. I thought he was making over 6, but CBJ signed him at still a 700k overpayment.

With Simmonds' finish, imagine him playing with Hughes or Hischier. Why can't he score 30 on this team? And who's to say he won't bounce back? Even if he doesn't, it's a one year deal.

NJ's last piece needed is a reliable D. But as I thought: this was the hardest thing for them to address so it doesn't shock me they didn't and probably won't succeed.

Any other signing or trade would surprise me at this point.

Lets put things into perspective...
Do you HONESTLY think Shero would do something that'll hurt the team?

Shero has done such a great job. Im sure he signed him because there is more than what we can see. No way Shero gets a douchebag into this young lockeroom.

Also, little by little the team is looking like they drafted right outta Newark!

- Leniwm1

Subban and Simmons played with each other in nash for a quick second. Wouldn’t be surprised if Shero asked Subban about him.

I didn't say he did want to play here. Maybe he didn't. You're right, even if we offered him more money he may still have wanted Columbus.. though idk what the heck is so great about Columbus, unless he still has family in Detroit so it's closer..

Bratt had 9 points over the last 10 games of his season (excluding the game he got hurt). He produced at over a 50 pt pace, completely fine with him in the top 6.

I guess he's moving to LW then, if Palmieri and Simmonds are our top 6 RW options. This also assures Zacha, Boqvist, everyone else will be bottom 6, which is ok. Bratt can play the left side.
