I thought at his cap hit he was a good deal. Why not package one of their 2nd round picks with Reaves?

league full of General Managers look silly during the 2017 Expansion Draft.

Not really. Made a couple look foolish, sure, but plenty had no issues. Vegas paid St. Louis 30 million in expansion fees just for a one year rental of David Perron.

Good for 1 year but they weren't going to be able to afford to resign him. He'll be a 5 Million plus player easy on his next deal

Yikes, that is some fine economic illiteracy. I hope you have a good government/union job.

I'd still be fine with him for one year. Eakins and Reaves should be gone first.

Not happy cause really liked him. Thinking there were others would have preferred gone over him. What's the condition on the pick too??

They have about $10 million more to shed. Don't be surprised with how little they get back for their players.

Meh, I remembered what each team is getting between Vegas & Seattle combined instead of just from one. Of course, you could have politely pointed out 30m was incorrect, rather than be a Richard.

In order to do that, trades are necessary, but that's hard to do when you made a league full of General Managers look silly during the 2017 Expansion Draft.
...

- Jeff Paul

Can't deny that he did a good job in 2017 but he's made some serious blunders since then.

On 26 February 2018, Tomas Tatar was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a first-round pick in 2018, a second-round pick in 2019 and a third-round pick in 2021.

Then on September 10, 2018, he turned around and traded the same Tatar, Nick Suzuki, and a 2019 second round draft pick for Max Pacioretty.

So in essence, he gave away:

- Tomas Tatar, Nick Suzuki (1st round pick), another first round pick, 2 second round picks and finally a third round pick ... all this to finally end up with Max Pacioretty.

- In 2018-2019, Pacioretty had 40 point in 66 games while Tatar had 58 points in 80 games.

-----------------

And now he's over the salary cap by a large amount and has to basically give away some players to comply with the rules.

I would call that piss poor asset management if you ask me ... if I was a Knight's fan, I would be asking for his head on a platter.

He's the one looking very silly right now.

Still not getting it for 400.

PS. No owner payed 15M for a single season of Perron and no NHL franchise is worth the sum of their players’ salaries. Think well north of that. Also, please consider other factors before equating a franchise buy-in to the sum of contracts obtained.

i understand that your point is that the trade was bad, and i'm not disputing that, but i HATE when people analyze trades like that. it makes ZERO sense.

he didn't trade tatar AND a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.......tatar was those picks. McPhee never had Tatar and those picks, he turned those picks into tatar.

it's like people who say that ottawa traded turris, girard, kamanev, bowers, 1st.......the reality isn't that. ottawa never had turris AND girard/kamanev....they turned turris into those players and then flipped them to Colorado.

it's a stupid way to analyze trades, makes no sense at all. when a gm trades a player away, you can't say that he's trading that player, plus every asset ever used to acquire him.

This is the same man who traded Forsberg for Erat. He seems to love burning future assets for guys on the peak or decline. Should have been the Leafs GM 30 years ago.

I don't disagree, but the end product is pretty solid right now, depending on what he does this summer. I was referring strictly to the Expansion Draft and there's a decent amount of bitter GMs.

Sad to see him go, but it was necessary and I rather see him go than someone like Smith.

They still need to make another move, who do you think it will be Jeff?

Can't argue that ... but that's a lot of wasted assets.

Is it wasted when you've agreed the product is solid right now? Isnt that what you want?

I didnt think the 3 picks for Tatar but now Vegas has legit 2 first lines. They have a real chance to win

I think it is one of Eakin, Stastny, or Smith to go next, one will likely be bundled with Horton's contract.

However, I would not be surprised if Patches is dealt. It is more cap relief, he's been injury prone, and the signing of Stone makes him a little tiny bit expendable.

Reaves is way too popular to the fans to trade IMO.
