PK, wasn't bad, but this team needs offense and Josi needs to be re-signed. That's it in a nutshell. Nothing personal..just business.

Well said. I’m tired of the white washed nhl. Just watched the Raptors NBA run and was so intrigued and excited for every game, each day off the pregame report. It was all just so very exciting. NHL is just so very bland.

Agree totally on Milbury !! Listening to him during the Blue Jacket/Bruins playoffs made me vomit. If it wasn't Boston, it wasn't right.
He puts the game back 20 years.

So Subban dances during a pre-skate . . . he's having fun playing a game !! What a novelty.

Only entertaining thing Milbury did his entire career, was beating that fan in the stands with his own shoe.
Otherwise, he is a wast of air. As a Dev fan on a weak D team, I love the trade. It was tough to give up Davies. He has all the skills to be a top 4 D on this squad within a year or two.

Devils clearly won that trade. It was a total salary dump on our side. I thought they could have gotten 1 or 2 more late round picks, but no salary retention for Preds was key.

Your description of the haters mirrors the situation in Montreal back when he was with the Habs. His “personality” (incidentally, I agree, the NHL needs more, not less, personality) rubbed some the wrong way (exacerbated by some in the media). In my view, there was a tinge of racism that added to the mix (certainly among some of the haters I know personally—sadly including some of my relatives).

I hated the trade from Montreal to Nashville, not because I have anything against Weber, but because Subban was a dynamic, larger than life presence who could more than back it up on the ice (a combination we haven’t had in decades). A breath of fresh air in a stodgy league and team.

Since the trade, I’ve not spent a penny on Habs stuff (tickets, gear, etc.) and I used to spend about 500-800$/yr. It’s not the trade itself (a pure money trade, to rebalance team strength between defence and forwards, like Nashville, would have been disappointing but justifiable) as much as the fact the Habs chose a crappy coach who is the epitome of the stodgy point of view (and I’m being VERY generous in my description of Therrien) over the chance to adopt a more dynamic vision of the game by keeping Subban and building around him. In fact, I haven’t seen a complete Habs game since the trade—and I used to PVR games I couldn’t watch live.

Time passes, Therrien is gone, and the team I’ve cheered for since Ken Dryden’s 1971 Cup run has some promising players with signs of dynamism, so perhaps my interest will increase again. After all, I didn’t abandon them entirely after the Roy debacle. But the Subban trade, with the attitudes expressed around it, will remain a dark moment of Habs history as far as I’m concerned.

I'm glad he's out of the Central Division.

Maybe this isn't so much about the strawmen "haters" as it is about just economics. Having a guy with a $9M cap hit for the next three years and management deciding they need to spend that money differently...

I cannot wait until they use that new cap space to sign overrated Matt Duchene to a 9 million dollar contract.

I have always liked Subban but definitely hated him on the ice as a Hab. Overall, he seems like a pretty good dude that does a lot for every community that he is involved with. Would love for him to be traded to a team I enjoy. New Jersey

My biggest issues with PK are his soccer player dramatics and the fact he can't bodycheck. The refs letting him get away with forearm shivers in lieu of using his body and getting into position to make a check.

I don't want to see the NHL turn into the NFL. I think PK is a good person and I don't have issues with his brand of flamboyance.

I think he's been overrated and his cost doesn't reflect his ability. Perhaps his price tag has made refs look the other way--I don't know. But he rarely is able to put himself in position to make a check and sticking out your forearm is not a legal check.

I'd rather have Anders Lee at a lower price for more maneuverability.

Nice write-up Paul. We’re very excited to have PK and hope the trade works out well for both sides.

Good post Paul, I echo most of your sentiments. Never had a problem with P.K. off the ice, and almost all of those complaints seem to come from people looking for more reasons to hate him, and let's face it... I hate it that this card is played so often, but there is a twinge of racism involved. I always loved how P.K. not only seemed to ignore the hate, but almost thrived on it, which is exactly the attitude you should have when people hate you for stupid reasons. Now on the ice, I can understand why fans of other teams don't like him... He's a agitator, the type of guy that gets under a fan's skin easy. That part I get, the personality and off ice stuff is all hogwash.

My problems with P.K. were always on the ice.. Not a fan of the belly flopping, bad turnovers, and his tendency not to show up every game. That's one criticism of P.K. that's valid, he loves the spotlight, and isn't always motivated when he's not in it. I'm not sure how I feel about this trade yet. I'll wait and see what Poile does the rest of the off-season before I decide if it was good or bad... I wish P.K. all the best in New Jersey. I do hope their fans realize they're not getting the same P.K. the Preds traded for 3 years ago. He's still a solid player when motivated, but not quite a #1 caliber D-man anymore. A few steps slower than he used to be, and can't quite get back on D when he gets caught pinching up on offense, which is a lot, like he used too. The injury may have had something to do with that though.

Subban dances during a pregame skate… The haters (I am looking at you Mike Milbury) say “it’s wrong and disrespectful.

Milbury is a dung-beetle in human form. His opinions mean zero.

I think a lot of the anti-PK sentiment is due to the amount of money he makes that most people don't believe he is worth. He plays with an edge that boarder lines on being dirty and is the type of player you love if he's on your team but hate as an opponent.

I get this is kind of a joke, but seriously why do so many fans get caught up in who won trades? It's the first thing all the talking heads start yapping about the second after a trade happens. The correct answer is either no one or both... Both teams decided to move on from guys that were a central figure on their team for different reasons. P.K. getting moved on now for financial reasons doesn't mean the trade was a bust. He fit better with the Preds Defense at the time, was pivotal to the finals run his first year here, and he helped elevate the stature of the team. He did his job, the trade was far from a bust from the Nashville perspective.
