This reason is exactly why I am against signing Panarin and or other players in free agency like Gardiner. Why Van should take on one or two short term bad contracts.

Yeah but Carolina offered Aho 6 mil . They will take another two first round picks from Aho offer sheet. They are Moneyball 2.0 .

Rumor is they will buy out Marleua to save a couple mil

That is a 9 mil cap hit we avoided

Reported Nashville was willing to eat as much as 3 million per year to get rid of him. Wonder if they retained.

Carolina isn't worried about a single year of Marleau. Even with signing Aho to a 9.5 8 year deal.

What if someone else anyone else needs a raise too exactly same as Kapanen and Johansson. Signing Panarin makes it really hard to give those extensions then.

Keep the space for the players they know they will need to extend. The future not the past.

I think the same thing as you do.

it was just reported the opposite. TOR was willing to take Subban if NSH wanted to retain 3 mill a year, but NSH wanted to void the contract entirely.

We need it to offer sheet Tkachuk

Passing on a player then trying to offer sheet ...sounds about right

It wast just reported that Kapanen has a deal in place, 3.2-3.4 aav for 3 years. I don't think they can retain Johnsson, even with Marleau gone.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the #Canucks have a trade coming shortly.
