Avalanchephenom, I don't think any true wild fans expect this team to sit atop the Central this year anyway. I was a little surprised they took a LW here with Krebs, Newhook, and Caulfield on the board, but I'm also not paid by an NHL team to scout these kids and make the picks.
I know I spent all day Saturday explaining to friends that didn't understand why the Wild kept on drafting left handed LWs. I kept telling them "simply put, the draft is where you grab what you consider to be the best player available" and stockpile players. Unless you are draft in 1 of the top 3 spots, most players after that will be needing some time to develop. When drafting at 12, that player is 97% sure that they will need some time to develop. I know that the Wild have a plethora of LWs already, but where will all those LWs be 4-5 years from now? I think this was an excellent pick.
I had to explaining that you fix your roster in trades and FA, not the draft. You prepare your future rosters with the draft and trades. I am a little confused on the 2nd Rd draft of Hunter Jones, but I don't know much about him either. But Fenton now has 7 days left to figure out a way in vastly improve this roster, or 1 of his best trade assets will have that 10 team NTC activated. Honestly, I am more and more on board with keeping Zucker now and seeing if the Wild can find a way to take advantage of the Leafs. Say something like Spurgeon, Fiala and Eriksson-EK for Zaitsev, Kapanen and 1 of either Nylander/Kadri (and honestly, I would prefer Nylander). Leafs get their wanted right handed Dman and 2 young guys that won't be near the price of Kapanen or Nylander. But it helps them in signing Marner. And Zaitsev has asked to be traded, so the Wild remove that headache for the Leafs. Wild get some right handed forwards, and a 2nd pairing Dman ( I think Zaitsev would work good with Brodin).
