Is it safe to assume that Trouba wouldn't agree to sign with any other team offering a better deal? This just looks like a trade where the Jets had no other options.

He didn't agree with the Rangers yet. It wasn't part of the deal. But Rangers were a small selection of teams he'd go to. Winnipeg was screwed and the trade shows it.

Sucks Winnipeg has young core pieces wanting out.

Let the Rangers deal with Overhart. Good luck to them and good riddance to the over rated Trouba IMHO. Never thought he was a number 1. Whoever sign's him will be sorry. His speed has declined in the last few years. Luckily Buff was hurt last year. He would have way less points. Can't run a power play. Buyer beware

Damn that was some straight up thievery by the Rags!

Why even bother trading him if that's all they got? Another run with Trouba is better than the 20th pick.

Like someone said in the article, this is a good deal for even a rental. There has to be something behind the scenes. Maybe other GMs were afraid of Trouba holding out this year and the risk of Trouba signing an offer sheet? I think any contending team would gladly give up a late 1st and an average prospect for 1 year of Trouba. If Trouba doesn’t want to sign long term in NY, they could easily flip him at the deadline for more than what they paid.
