Ugh, leading scorer in the playoffs?
Playoff MVP.
Scores in 4 straight finals games, only other player to do so is Gretzky.

Yeap didn’t help at all.

St Louis should probably trade him for two cap dumps a C prospect and a late first.

- ImThatGuy

I will just add... If it was not for Bennington, The blues don't even get in the playoffs.

He was also the teams leader scorer when they were in last place...

Again that trade didn't make them a Championship team. It was a big piece for sure, but that roster was already built ready to win, all it took on top of ROR was a fired coach and a rookie goalie to play god like...

Yea I’m not on a misery train, but thanks.

Maybe try raising your expectations for this franchise?

But hey just get close to the playoffs and Sabres fans will be happy, right?

Buffalo sports teams have been so bad for so long that fans expectations are so low

- ImThatGuy

Edit: my bad, read that wrong. Your right i would not be happy just getting close

IMO this is a dumb statement... Of curse we would be happy if the Sabres made the Playoffs, after all, in order to win the Cup you have to make the playoffs right???

That’s fine, it’s just frustrating to me that what is considered acceptable around here is .500 or better for either team.

Same. Last night was the first actual game I watched start to finish in the playoffs because the Sabres have been so miserable I just didn’t care to watch anymore hockey

I hate this notion that the Sabres are a joke for trading ROR... it's just dumb. The Sabres did the respectable and productive thing in not letting negative PR and holdouts due to a trade request loom on the team. They didn't let the uncertainty doom other players.

They said.. "ROR.. we appreciate you coming here and playing your heart out. We understand that you wish to be moved and we are sorry to hear that. We will try to facilitate that."

Other GMs knew it... Pegulas knew it wasn't salvagable so they didn't want to just give $7M then trade him... so Botts did what he had to do. He got a 1st, depth vet experience (the big hole we thought we had), and a prospect. He didn't know the pick would be 31st. He ended up getting 2 1sts for Kane and ROR both of whom we had to move and other teams knew it. And he still got it. f*ck.

The class thing to do would be for the Sabres to say congratulations to Ryan O’Reilly on Twitter Or Instagram

But ..

The ROR return obviously looks crappy but Botterill was handcuffed just like he was with re-signing Skinner.

I'm not going to sit here and be happy about it but it is what it is. ROR wanted out and the more it get's swept under the rug by the national media the Sabres will look like a joke more and more.

Whatever, just build a good team going forward

Why?

He wanted out, it would be like when Hasek won after demanding out

The only difference is Hasek was more vocal about it

A) I had huge expectations for the rebuild, but Murray ruined that.

B) I have huge expectations for the repair of the original rebuild, but I'm a realist, and that takes time

C) I'm going to be 48. While this team has never won a cup, we've had many, many good to great teams here

D) just because I choose to remain positive doesn't mean I don't have expectations, or negative opinions on a bad trade, signing, whatever. I also know that if they keep firing people, they will just keep spinning their wheels, as every new guy that comes in is going to want to build the team in "his vision".

Because that’s the right thing to do but they are obviously too scared of the backlash

So they will hide

You are clueless

It is not the right thing to do

A player demands out and gets traded, he happens to win the Cup so you want the team he handcuffed to send him congrats?

You have much to learn

Rick Nash wanted out of CBJ and would only go to NYR.... happens all the time.

Botterill was only handcuffed by his boss, which is also bad news.

Botterill fvcked up with that awful trade. He got 0 immediate help and a lesser prospect.

But it’s all good, the Sabres will maybe be .500 next year and that’s good enough.

You honestly have no clue what you’re talking about but continue ( I lost the love for the game ) was not a trade request they moved him because of the comments and his looker room antics

But please continue with the “trade Request “

If we’re going by your logic then risto is the only one that actually asked for a “request “

- gerbe75pts

I trust Homie and his info than anything you say

I also have info from someone who knows him pretty well that he realized he needed to move on and asked to be moved
