the trade is off, the Panthers have moved on - jimbro83
In that case, #12 is mighty close to #13 |

Outside of the conversation surrounding the mock draft, the two deals mentioned by a couple of you Rangers fans yesterday are something I want to make sure are viable deals to the majority and not just one offs from the fringes. Where do the rest of you stand on these deals?
8 and Puljujarvi for 20, 58, Buchnevich, Nanestnikov and Vesey
OR
8 for Buchnevich and 20 |

I think Jan listed all the posters in the previous blog.
You can always try this though...

We knew someone who was just like this. He would show up at parties we would have in HS and he already graduated college. |

And you, as the Rangers, have Winnipeg's pick. There's a treasure trove of assets I want from that barren tundra |

I would be on board for either honestly. Although maybe you could throw us a middling forward prospect of your choice with the 2nd offer. |

I think I'd have to say no to that, I'd do Vesey, Georgiev and 20 for 8 |

I could throw a middling D prospect as we're very short on forward prospects of any quality. Ethan Bear going your way and perhaps a very late pick (5th or 6th) coming back? |

That'd still be tempting. However, if you were open to the other one, I'd definitely prefer mostly fixing the forward problem with a single trade. Buchnevich is an appealing asset to me despite limited track record. |

He is the same to the Rangers, given his age, finish last season and projectability. |

Why would the Oilers do this? They need second and third line guys to help round out their roster. But Vesey and Stinky are both UFAs at the end of the coming season. Would they re-sign in Edmonton? The trade kinda doesn't make sense if they're only going to get one season out of them. |

I'll hook you guys my usual dual-retention trade where we retain 1.5mil, send him to Ottawa along with a couple pieces (2nd, prospect and a mid pick) where they retain an additional 2.25mil and then send him to you. I'm not prepared to eat the cost of a complete salary dump. |

Plus how do we know Pujujarvi will be better than Buchnevich. Jury is very far out on him. |

Absolutely, but that's kinda of the balance to strike. There's a notable drop in talent for the Oilers from 8 to 20 and- if Puljujarvi is in the deal- a notable hit to a possible future asset, as well. Something has to mitigate the drop-off. |

I totally agree with you. I'm just looking at it from Edmonton's perspective. They are in dire need of NHL caliber players after the first line. One year of such players who could then bolt via free agency doesn't make sense to me. |

Vesey might resign if he spends a whole season playing with either McDavid & Draisaitl or Nuge and Buchnevich. He's all but assured a spot in the top-6 with only Benson around the corner fighting for a spot. Nam can be let go without concern as he'd just be a single year cover to help them compete and give Benson and Maksimov some extra time to develop. |

You don't. I figure the reasoning for the deal is as follows:
The drop-off in value from the prospect at 8 and the prospect at 20 is comparable to the difference in current production between Puljujarvi and Buchnevich. The potential Puljujarvi has (but may not achieve) is likely greater than that of Buch- though how much of a difference varies by individual perception. You're taking a risk and giving a risk. I figured the addition of Nam was to clear cap space and Vesey was sweetener to justify the cap clearing. |

My rationale for LA, is I wanted to get a top forward AND Dman. Didn’t think 22 guaranteed that. At 22 I see a drop off - Slimtj100

Ok. I'm not too up on the Oiler's prospects. They think they're only a year or 2 away? Maybe that changes things a bit.
Even if Vesey plays with McDavid, he'll still only have 16 goals. Just keep track of the number of posts he hits! |
