Maybe Ebs will sign a friendly contract? Shero wont do anything to hamper the teams progress we can be sure of that. If ebs wants to be a devil and doesnt break the bank I am down, otherwise hit the road. |

Good read Todd,
I would be thrilled if we could poach Sjs RW's. Say 3 years 5.5M AAV for Gustav, and 3 years 3M AAV for Donskoi. That would be huge for this club. Ideally we would offer sheet Kapanen and add Donskoi as the 3RW, but those offer sheets never seem to happen, so Palms/Nyquist/Donskoi/Noesen would actually be a respectable lineup.
Again, I don't have an issue with eberle if we take him for 1 or 2 seasons, but that is plan C. |

Offer sheets are like the Loch Ness monster. We can all believe they exist even if we never see one; but it doesn’t affect reality in any way. |

As an Isles fan who watched Eberle all last season I would not want to give him a big contract either. He did have a really good playoff series vs Pit and looked like a different player while scoring 4 goals in 4 games but his regular season was very pedestrian. He also does not play very well in his own zone which is an issue if he not going to be scoring at least 20 goals.
He is a fine middle 6 scoring winger but the problem is he is going to paid like a very good 2nd line player probably in the neighborhood of 6m AAV over 5-6 years which is a big overpay considering his production is likely to fall as he ages. That being said, I think Eberle had a hard time adjusting to Trotz style of of play and it hampered his production. Any team that signs him should get pretty solid numbers out of him for the first couple years as long as he is paired with a center who can give him space. |

If NJ signs Eberle, I'll probably defend the signing. I think there are a lot of peculiarities now that I've had a closer look on his situation. I just hope it's an affordable contract - closer to 5M than 6. Ray's definitely going to keep that number tame if he's going to have to pay Hall, Hischier, and Hughes in the coming years.
Nyquist is a decent right wing, but I can't see NJ being at the top of his list. If Holland can manage the cap situation in Edmonton - they'd be making a pitch. Edit: if I was paying Nyquist, I think his number might be close to 6.5M/y for 6 years.
Then NJ might offer sheet someone: Ray has made known "ya gotta look at all your options".
There's a lot that's going to happen in the next five weeks. |

IF we signed Eberle my mindset would be simply hoping Hall, Hischier, Hughes, can raise his game. That's not a player I want to target.. one we have to hope plays well because his linemates are great. That's a stupid signing. I want a player I have pretty good certainty can game on his own and doesn't need to be carried to reach a measly 50 points! |

With his injuries and lack of defensive game, you will soon be saying the same things about hall. Trade him for a prospect while you still can, just not to my oilers. |

Yu dont know terms or $$ noone does..It could be a 3 year deal ..friendl to play with Hall..
You know who else averaged 1.41 points/60? Brett Seney. Miles Wood (1.56) and Kenny Agostino (1.69) were also among the nine Devils forwards to equal or best Eberle's 5v5 output.
BUt NOW he is going to play with HALL and NICO..... HELLO..........
Need a RW for HALL or he walks.... Simple... sign hs buddy.
RW are
PALMIERI
Anderson
Gabriel
Stafford
Coleman and Bratt played on the RW as well
Hall-Nico-Eberle
Zacha -Hughes -Palmieri
Bratt - Boquist - Mcleod
Wood - Zajac -Coleman

The "simple" answer is not to add a player that needs to be carried. If my buddy makes me and my line worse, then I don't want him on my line, let alone my team. Find someone better. |

This article convinced me the Devils should go after Nyquist. Give him 6 for 6 to get him on this team.

Would you consider trading Bratt if you know the return is a top 4 defenseman under control?

From the article:
have Nyquist landing a six-year deal worth about $5.75 million per year
I think it'll be higher than that unless he takes a discount somewhere. That discount probably won't be with the Devils. |

yea? Not sure he was much a difference maker in the SJ playoff games I watched. 1g, 10a in 20gp. He's not a scorer really. We need another scorer in the top 6. |

Thanks Todd. I am in agreement on Eberle and have 3 words.
NO FREAKING WAY! |

You guys have to understand. No FA wants to play for us. If Eberle wants to come to Jersey he'll immediately be one of our best RWs. There are no decent RW prospects waiting in the wings.
By all means explore better options first. But keep in mind his measly 50 points would've been top of our scoring last year.
Beggars can't be choosers in our case. |

With Nico, Hughes, Smith, Bratt, Palms, etc, etc. and hopefully Hall staying on, this isn't your Dad's Devils anymore. Enough with the "nobody likes us" - NHL fans I talk to all around are becoming more aware of, and into the Devils.

So I ask: Knowing our horizon to take advantage of Hall in his prime, our current cap structure and time horizon of our current young stars, if Point or Marner becomes available on July 1st (offer sheet)do you offer $11 million. It costs you 4 firsts (potentialy mid round, no lottery picks based on roster)? I am of the belief you do it, as those 4 picks in the time frame alloted will not have the same impact with Hall on the team. Marner as a winger is even more valuble. Note it addresses Hall's talent point moreso than most talked about as potential Devil acquisitions. Talk amongst yourselves. |

This is what I been saying.... Its 4 picks, but our picks would suck anyway with the roster we got. So I am ok with splurging on Marner. |

I wouldn't do that and I believe most GM's (if not all) are not going to use the offer sheet route. I do believe their is a trade to be made between the Devils and Toronto...more like mid tier prospect (Joey Anderson or Brett Seney type) and a mid round pick for Kapanen and Marleau. Now we would have to buy out Marleau because he has a full NMC and he would want to play for a team that has a chance at the cup (reunion with San Jose likely). But this trade helps out Toronto in keeping Marner not losing him and we get a 22yr old RW that fits our team growth wise with Nico, Bratt, Zacha, Smith, Wood, McLoed, Bastian, Boqvist and Hughes all being under 23, they can all grow together, kind of like what Toronto had. |

If we trade for his rights, I have no problem giving him 10yrs at 11mil because he's 22 and he's just getting better....but I can't lose all those 1st rounds picks. Adding him and even Hughes doesn't make the Devils contenders, we might be like Ottawa with Colorado and watch Toronto in the playoffs and they'll have all our lottery picks when we still miss the playoffs...and that's for four years. Can't do that. |
