CGY should trade the 26th overall pick for Alexandar Georgiev

How does you have the Islanders in the title and then not mentioned anywhere in the actual article?

The Islanders aren't signing Bobrovsky.

The Flames convincing Bobrovsky to come to Calgary would be amazing, but there's not really any chance it actually happens unless Bobrovsky's only concern is winning.

They can't really overpay him since the tax situation in Alberta is going to be giving all the extra money to the government.

Alberta isn't really a great place to spend your winters. If you're not from Alberta and could live pretty much anywhere you want, why would you choose Alberta?

No big name free agents ever sign in Alberta. Who were the biggest from the past 20 years? Lucic and Wideman?

He's Russian.

There is the rumor that his rights could be traded for Lehner's rights. Both teams would need assurances that they could sign their goaltender. A sign-and-trade deal could also be worked to accomplish the same result. Who gets the better side of that? Depends on the contracts, but both teams could get value from that deal given that Bob isn't re-signing in Columbus.

Lehner is an Islander isn't he?

Oh sorry you mentioned one pending UFA's name one time, my mistake.

I'd jump on that one. But it only works for FLA if Bob signs (sign & trade?). That's the only way they give up Huberdeau. It'd be great to have him on left wing.

I thought Mike Smith was actually good in the playoffs...not mentioning anything about the regular season. He had great numbers, I would make sure you fact check prior to calling out someone as the reason for a playoff series loss. The Flames were out skated - goaltending in the playoffs was not an issue at all!
To be fair - the Flames need an upgrade between the pipes, but the playoff failure had nothing to do with the goaltending.

As an obvious AVS fan I agree Smith played so damn good in the series this year, 5 games and 5 games of me literally saying, "how the eff did he stop that?!"

Its the worst I have felt to see Smith lose in the playoffs, he deserved a game 7 try at shutting down the avalanche of avalanche shots coming his way all series.

"We can also play what might have been with the #1 seed in the West CGY. Most will point squarely at the goalie position when discussing the failure of the Flames in the playoffs."

Wasn't the case at all, actually. Mike Smith was superb in the playoffs. It's the rest of the team that let us down.

While technacially not a UFA signing because you traded for his rights, Jay Bouwmeester was the biggest FA of the year when flames signed him.

I wouldn't pay a 1st round pick. Perhaps a solid B prospect.

Bouwmeester was pretty big, but he's also an Albertan.

Pretty high chance Luongo retires, actually. He only makes 1 million a season now, and it might not be worth it for him. Boughner was telling me about it at Christmas. Managements plan is to swap Reimer for whatever they can get, talk Lu into being a backup for one more season, and sign Bob, and Panarin.

I guess we'll see if it happens.
