As a Rangers fan, I dont want him now, if this was 3 years in the future, Id say yes, but not now. We are still rebuilding and not even close to making the playoffs yet let alone the Cup. Panarin will only add a few more points for us in the standings and only hurt our draft position in the coming years.

Crazy how this all went. I guess nobody can be mad at Panarin. But at the same it would suck to lose him for nothing.

Keep an eye on the team no one is talking about and thats the Chicago Black hawks.
The breadman and Kaner have a good friendship and Artem would love to come back.

How would they make it work?

Isles aren't signing Eberle (probably will walk) and Sbisa, lol, they aren't resigning him for much, if they even do. Lee is next up, then either Lehner or Bob. I'd sign Lehner because he's younger and really enjoyed his year on the island.

Trading Saad or Anisimov would be more than enough. Losing Krueger's contract, which should happen - can't see him back at the over 3 mil cap hit.

They've set themselves up with some potential (albeit unproven at the NHL level entirely) in Kahun, Kampf, and Kubalik. Caggiula has demonstrated he can play top line minutes with Toews and Kane and be effective.

Panarin, if anything, has proven in Columbus (he did it in Chicago as well, if anyone thee cares to remember) that he doesn't have to play with Kane to be effective ... essentially you have a LW to use on either 1st or 2nd lines.

The Finn goalie at worlds is Hawks property... an not too terribly worried about the D corps either.

Why did you mention Sbisa? With one sentence you proved you don’t know what’s going on there.

Penguins trading Kessel likely brings back a guy with a similar cap hit. They arent trading him to save salary.

Guys that could be moved as more of a salary dump move: Johnson, Gudbranson, & Hornqvist. Maatta maybe, but I think he is traded for a similar player of similar salary or isnt traded at all.

Penguins being in on this signing would be great though I'd expect him to play with Malkin. Signing him would bolster their top 6 forwards with Crosby, Malkin, Panarin, Guentzel, McCann, & TBD (maybe guy acquired for kessel). That's all great, but it isnt necessarily solving the problem of poor defense & limited bottom 6 scoring.

Why would he go to over hyped, over taxed New York and Chicago? Why would he want to go to Pittsburgh and be the #3 or #4 man on an aging team?

Maybe after seeing what his $10 million a year salary will really be after the city and state taxmen are done with it, and seeing how old the Pens are, Florida, or dare I say Columbus, might look better and better.

It's a pipe dream, I know.

If I was a Columbua fan I'd want him back too, but NYR has alot going for it in the future, and Panarin might like being the focal point of an up and coming team in NY

this is a horrendous take

you'd rather sign an 11 million a year player when our Calder candidates (Kravstov, Fox and probably Kakko) are all finishing up their entry level contracts and will probably be due big raises if all goes according to plan?

the time to sign a player like Panarin is NOW

gotta take advantage of when these kids will make the lowest money in their careers

not to mention, Panarin is a good mentor for the young Russians joining the team

The Islanders front office and coaching staff have proved to the hockey world that their goal and team is for real. They should sign Lee and Lehner...I would like to see Islanders add Panarin and Duchene.

This would give the Isles a solid three to four year window.

you guys should maybe focus on the back end , that defence was punching above it's weight.

Are you serious? You don’t want him now? If not now when? When he’s 32? We have a wealth of talent right now! I’m not saying we’re going to win the cup next year but crazier poop has happened and why not NYR now? He’ll have plenty of talent around him and in a system that is learning to consistently play “the right way” straight ahead forward. This draft will surly make it even easier for the Bread man to lean toward NYC and then the sky is the limit. It will be a fast talented team that will make mistakes along the way but with his Russian comrades and a Finn named Kappo Kaako it is truly the team for Panarin. You don’t want him now! WTF!

Thanks for the reply, and don't take this the wrong way, but if I wanted to maximize my earning power the last place I would ever want to go is a place like New York, with a socialist incompetent mayor and a tax rate that would take at least half of his income. Chicago is just as bad, or even worse.

I also freely admit that as a person who lives in the Midwest and has been to New York City several times, I have no idea why anyone would want to live in that mess of a city, in spite of the many good things it has.

If he wants to play in a place to make a lot of cash and help in rebuilding a team, then Florida is the place for him to go, or he can stay in Columbus and finish what he started. But that's just my biased opinion.

But I'm not Breadman, his girlfriend, or his agent, and if he wants to live and play in new York, thar's his choice.

I agree on your assessment of NYC. I live on Long Island, and I only go there a few times a year to see a game. Don't get me started on that Commi Mayor!!! Some like the bright lights of NYC and some do not. In most cases , the player doesn't know how they will handle it until they actually get there.

The weird thing is that most of the pro athletes in NY aren't noticed too much while they go about their daily lives, especially the hockey players.

Hope Panarin comes here...he's a great player!

I would pass on Bob too. I think the Isles should sign Lee/Lehner then go after the bread man. If he signs or not the Isles really should target Skinner. He fits Trotz's system very well playing in all zones and special teams. Skinner is a no brainer....Panarin would definitely open up the offense though.

At least you get a ton of good golf courses on the island!
It is beyond belief the kind of politicians that make it to high positions in that city.
Hopefully one day CLB can get another player like Breadman and we have enough horses to win the Cup, sadly I thought we could get it done this year and didn't.

We do have a lot of golf courses. I can't afford to play many of them, but I'll always have Bethpage 5 min. Away!!!
