I said he was born in LA. Then I said LA was a better marketing opportunity. Then you said we shouldn't say he is from LA because they moved. So I asked you if you thought LA was a better marketing opportunity, which was the point of my post that you turned into some point about where we are supposed to say he's from. - aminnes
It's hard to keep track of which direction you are going in, because you are constantly spinning.
of course L.A is, it's a larger city and far more marketable than Scottsdale, Arizona..
Matthews spent, what the first 18 months of his life in California, then lived in Arizona for what 16 years before playing in Switzerland?
I have to think if people ask him where he is from, he'd say Arizona and not California.. Kinda like how Nylander says he's Swedish, even though he was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Not sure how you got that from my post... Admittedly, though, I'm not really surprised. |

Oh yeah.
I don’t know exactly where you got confused, but it was a pretty standard comment. There’s been tons of talk about AM playing for his hometown since before he played in the NHL. I think he’s not married to the idea of being a Leaf forever.
As for Tkatchuk and Chabot, that’s more than fair value for him. - Arctic_AARDVARK

So it would probably be there. - Arctic_AARDVARK

I debate these things all the time..
I don’t I know what there is to debate here. I said I could see AM going to his hometown. That’s not far-fetched. Tavares came here didn’t he? Also I’ve noticed you’re hanging onto the comment that “the NHL should find a way to do this” (or something to that effect) and you’re completely taking it out of context. Like AA! How could you possible the NHL would meddle!?!?
Because a poop-ton of money is involved. We aren’t supposed to believe this happens, but it’s a business. - Arctic_AARDVARK
“I think AM will be moved to ARI in his final year. There’s too much money to make for the NHL not to make it happen.”
Your direct quote
So yeah, I wonder why.
And ffs, the NHL isnt going to make a star player go to a team. That does not happen.
And sure, JT did. A lot of players don’t do that and for reasons other than being close to family and friends that they grew up with.
I highly doubt JT came to Toronto to just be in his hometown. It likely had a lot to do with the Leafs being a top team and a model franchise.
There is a reason no player “came home” the last few decades. It wasn’t an attractive spot to play.
And neither is Arizona.

Maybe? It would take an impressive amount of co-ordination and skill, but I guess it could be possible. |

Ok ok ok, hold up...
How the F is Doughty + a better option than Tkachuk and Chabot?!!!?
I’m clearly not the crazy one. You guys have no idea how good Brady and Thomas are, none whatsoever. |

Somehow me saying Matthews was born in LA and asking if LA was a better marketing opportunity was me trying to get people to argue about whether he's actually from Arizona or not. |
