Maybe, but He has a front office position right now, and I don't think he really wanted to coach in Charlotte in the first place, they just kind of got stuck after Ulf Samuelsson resigned.

Who knows, though. If the rumours of Don Waddel wanting to go back to just handling the business side of things and Eric Tulsky taking over as GM are true, could be Tulsky would want somebody else in that front office role.

- BINGO!

yeah i guess a lot of it will depend on how things change (or don't) in Carolina

Moving towards a playoff spot should and will not include Casey Nelson as a regular nhl starting player

Fleury's fine.

He's been extremely sheltered, though, as the coaches don't seem to trust him for whatever reason.

He's not even close to Trouba. Will top out as a #4-5 dman on a decent team.

Thank you

Unless Buffalo could offer him something better long term. There's a small yet distinct possibility that Krueger's role as coach is short term, and that he'll look to shift into a front office role. If that's the case that could be the angle for Vellucci, do your time as an NHL assistant here and take over as HC while we're something resembling good.

This is a good post.

I felt the same way about chris Taylor, glad they cleared up that he will stay in Rochester next season

Someone: vellucci or another young coach will probably be groomed as a replacement.

A few things to add to this...

Before this past season output of 50 points (contract year), Trouba averaged 21 pts a year while only averaging 65 games a year.

Risto only went below 78 games played once in his career and has averaged 38 pts a season and has had 41+ points for 4 straight seasons.

Do you really not only want to trade a 7OA for Trouba but then also pay him ~7M when this board complains enough about Risto making 5.3M!?!?!

I get it that Risto is not the most well liked or appreciated player on these boards but Trouba is not even better than Montour IMO.

YIKES.

Trouba>Provorov, AINEC. He's supremely overrated

Edit: he's better than nurse as well

- Sabresfan-365

Trouba's contract situation is enough to scare me away, unless they have an extension agreed to in advance. Can't give up more significant resources to play the Skinner game again.

Are you happy with an Eichel, Dahlin, Skinner, Sam, Trouba core? Can they even afford them?

Lol.... Trouba is older, slower, not as good offensively, would require assets to acquire, and then will cost more than Risto...

But yea... sure you guys.... keep penciling him in for 7 years as a core member.

By 6 months. And he's better at defense than Risto, which is what we need imo

I'm only wrong in that I might overrate Fleury a little bit.

Buddy per Ek I have had my eye on Carolina for years. You are underselling Fleury. Tulsky is gonna make him top 4 next season with Dougie.

"We need more puck moving defensemen.. we are so slow and have too many anchor guys"

2 minutes later...

"We need more defensive guys... we need to get rid of Risto for this entitled dude that sucks offensively and we then give up a 7OA pick for!!!!"

The assets to acquire Trouba would scare me away but the player himself wouldn’t. I watched a lot of Trouba and apart from the brain fart of trying to pin a puck behind your own net with 30 seconds left he is fantastic at transitioning and playing the body and skates extremely well for his size. Points might not be there but sooner or later we need to have a guy who isn’t a disaster in his own zone and intimidates the opposition physically.

Since Montour was acquired, I've said that he makes Risto expendable. They're both 2nd pair RHD PP guys who aren't great at defense, but Montour is better at outlet play, and Risto is tougher. Montour makes Risto expendable. Neither should be on the top pair imo. I think Trouba would belong on the top pair, and Montour fits nicely on the 2nd. Risto can be moved for forward help. I've been totally consistent on that point since we acquired Montour

Trouba was top 15 NHL DMen giveaways this season with 86. Risto had 44.

Risto had more than double the hits as Trouba did this season. 235 vs 113

Trouba blocked more shots than Risto did however.

Their EV Corsi is within 1.5% of eachother. Trouba even had a 5% higher OZ start than Risto.

I fail to see this gigantic different on paper at least.

Anytime you can overpay for a 2nd pair guy you have to do it.
