He's played 80+ games in the NHL and hasn't scored a goal yet. That's a contrarian's contrarian opinion

He's better than Trouba? No.
- jcragcrumple

I mean, it's a 20 game sample, but a few of those other guys were actually pretty bad this year.

Nurse, keller and provorov had bad years

Nelson is quite possibly the biggest p*ssy in the entire national hockey league.

Time to put his Jersey away, maybe Tyler Myers can help you hide it somewhere up high?

While your wrong, your also stuck in the previous approach to the offseason, remember now:

Trouba is a 2nd ish pairing guy with offensive potential.

He is 25 and his play will likely decline soon.

Factor in his likely bloated contract and the assets required to acquire him and it is a no brainer to not want him.

If it's a swap for Risto i'd do it in a heartbeat. If they want actual value well then...

20 games this year though right? Assuming he kept up even 70% of the pace he was playing at he would've scored at least one had he played a full year.

Friedman saying the Sabres could look to Vellucci for Krueger's assistant
- Sabresfan-365

He'd be a great fit, he's a real good coach, BUT he's also the Assistant GM in Carolina. I know his contract is up, but not sure they want him to leave, and I don't know that he'd give up a job like he has for an assistant coach role.

career games. And as we know, young players, especially d-men, they peak at 18 and never get better. especially not over an off season where they have a chance to work on themselves on and off the ice.

Unless Buffalo could offer him something better long term. There's a small yet distinct possibility that Krueger's role as coach is short term, and that he'll look to shift into a front office role. If that's the case that could be the angle for Vellucci, do your time as an NHL assistant here and take over as HC while we're something resembling good.

What about an enhanced version of Trouba, then would you want him?

If the opinion is "Haydn Fleury will be better than Trouba," ok, I don't agree but that's a tenable position. But to say he is currently better than Trouba, when he doesn't have a goal in 87 games, that's a nonsensical opinion imo. And he's 22, not 18

My point was more about growth and less about specific age. He got better between the year he was 21 and now when he's 22. Like a lot of players, so its unfair to group those games together and just say he's goalless his whole career so he's not good.

Like I said, if he played at even 70% of the pace he played these 20 games at this year, he would have scored.

And yes its a small sample size so I can't say he's definitely better now but it was/is trending that way

Also that Esa Lindell contract is all kinds of brutal. The guy's best attribute is that he's only slightly below average defensively.

Klingberg is 90% responsible for his offense.

Maybe, but He has a front office position right now, and I don't think he really wanted to coach in Charlotte in the first place, they just kind of got stuck after Ulf Samuelsson resigned.

Who knows, though. If the rumours of Don Waddel wanting to go back to just handling the business side of things and Eric Tulsky taking over as GM are true, could be Tulsky would want somebody else in that front office role.

Fleury's fine.

He's been extremely sheltered, though, as the coaches don't seem to trust him for whatever reason.

He's not even close to Trouba. Will top out as a #4-5 dman on a decent team.
