Michael Pachla: Sabres coaching search may lean towards a stop-gap like Martin or Ruff With the coaching list becoming even smaller and more average, Sabres may look for a short-term solution behind the bench

The Buffalo Sabres will receive the first-round draft pick of whichever team wins the Western Conference Final between San Jose and St. Louis.
The Sabres will send a first-round pick of the loser of the series to the Anaheim Ducks to complete the trade which landed the team Brandon Montour. Buffalo acquired the picks in trades that sent Evander Kane to the Sharks and Ryan O'Reilly to St. Louis.

stuff comes out after the fact

nothing more, nothing less

just because I did not like ror as a player 15 months ago, does not in any way change what I hear

looking back, IMO the biggest mistake Kim and Terry have made with the sabres was to trade RoR

I am able to admit I was wrong

- homiedclown

That's how you would characterize what you were saying about him? Not things about his GF, his kid, his music, his drinking, his religion, his diet and his temperament?

Dude you were savage. You're retconning the situation and finding a convenient scapegoat to match the current narrative of choice. This is absurd

I don't care that she is a female

She is one of the owners

The owners should not have a say in personnel.

They hire people who know way more about the game than them to make those decisions.

The end

Once we get anthony cirelli everyone will forget about Ryan O’Reilly

And if we don’t then botts should be fired ( talking about a Tampa Bay trade)

The big thing for the Sabres right now is to get them winning again and there's a much better probability that Martin or Ruff could get them moving in the right direction. We know it's not ideal, but Buffalo's not exactly in an ideal situation and ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Right?

Fair to say the coaching search was botched?

The next 2-3 months of activity or inactivity on Botterill's part will due more to determine the outcome of the season than any of these retreads. Q, AV and Grönborg were the best names

I’ll disagree here plenty of owners do this one time or another

Lindy got his players to buy in to what he was selling

He also showed he can change his systems based on his players

Housley showed neither

The one thing this board will jump on is the constant line juggling Lindy did

Either way I agree that the players Botts gets (or doesn't get) will have more impact than who is the coach

Give me Ruff above anyone else that is left. At least he has proven that he can win when he has players...

At this point just bring back ruff and see if he can work his magic like the golden days he’s never had this much talent after the cup run’s

no, I don't think it was botched...imo timing was off...there was a very small pool of candidates this year with seven or eight teams looking for a new head coach

You're telling me Vinik is making decisions on who the Lightning should keep?

How about Jacobs?

The Pegula's are too hands on

It's one thing to put in your input here and there but it's another thing to be forcing player decisions to your GM

So I'm a big Sabres fan, and I might be in the minority but I never thought Ruff should have been fired in the first place. It was Regier frantically trying to save his job. I know a lot of people say "he didn't do well in Dallas either" but did you see the goaltending he had while he was there?! It was atrocious! I genuinely would love to see Ruff come back and I think he could do really well. However, I think there is a very very tiny chance that actually happens.
