Good summary. His very low hockey IQ will prevent him being here when the ship turns around (which I think will be soon).

provorov's a great young d-man...would fit right in with Toronto...that said, they'd need to add a little more...marner's a beast (at least in the regular season)

2yr./$4.5M contract extension to anchor the third pairing and pk?...I think that's reasonable until Borgen develops

I like what the Bills did this weekend and I think Beane and McDermott are a great duo. Now I hope Botts can bring in a coach that can mimic the relationship of the Bills duo. Continue to get rid of dead weight like Bogo once their contracts run out or through trade and draft well. Spend smartly in free agency and this team should be competing in no time. Very solid core.

I feel like we should see how next year goes for Bogo and decide if we want to try to resign him before the trade deadline. He really doesnt bring everything to the table anymore that warranted 5m/year, and if he starts missing games again next year, I would retain as much salary as we can and get the be possible return at the deadline. Might as well get a pick out of the guy if we dont plan to keep him

gotta like what they did running up to the draft...ate a bunch of contracts, traded away overpriced players from previous regimes, bit the bullet with dead cap money last season and brought in a ton of depth during free agency giving them flexibility at the draft...

and, of course, drafting oliver at 9 after Oakland outsmarted themselves and the giants reached for a qb...

gotta love it

I really hope the Sabres can do the same. Obviously it will take longer since there is no such thing as dead cap money and cutting players in the NHL, but I think they are on the right track. I don’t think being big spenders in free agency is the correct answer.

I so look forward to the day that Bogo is not on the Sabres payroll. I don't care how well liked he is "in the locker room" and what he does for the community, it is time to move on from him.

Did he show enough this season to warrant the Sabres keeping him around on another contract? What would said contract look like?

Please no. I expected him to take an offensive step forward under Housley. If he pots close to 10 goals and plays 70+ games, then maybe.

8 goals, 23 points. 72 gp. Can he hit that? Then talk extension

Just realized he was born 2 days after me

he also said the preds may consult with PK regarding a trade, even though PK's NM clause was voided after the trade to Nashville

I’m July 17th, Bogo should not be extended. Let him chase his real dream of being a DJ

Even if we give Skinner $9M we will still have $15M or so in cap space and that doesn't include a possible Sobotka buyout which would free up almost $3M (It would cost $1M against our cap next year), and moving out guys like Scandella and Hunwick to provide more cap space. I doubt we move Sheary but that would be another $3M right there. Cap space is the least of this teams worries, especially after next year when all of those aforementioned players are off the books regardless including Bogo.

I’ve seen enough. Move on or bring him back at $1.5M in a 5-6 role. Shelter his minutes and maybe he can stay on the ice and help out.

Bogo is exactly what is wrong with the Sabres. The sooner he is off this team the happier I will be. Every year he is hurt at the beginning of the season. You watch these playoffs and Bogo would never hold up to the physical play.

I agree. I'm just saying I had big hopes that maybe he could match his rookie numbers under Housley. That first Housley year, I predicted he would get 10 or so.

He's one of those guys who I thought has enough skill to put it into a higher gear offensively, but it never happens. Dude can unleash a mean clapper. It just never goes in

No one, that is why Housley had to be fired! This team as it stands is in bad shape and I am not sure the Pegula's and Botterill will do the right things to change it. This team is now the product of Botterill and it is so far from being a playoff team.

Well that and he’s a terrible hockey player.

Brandon Montour is a decent 2nd pairing RD who also has visible flaws

Brandon Montour is better than Ristolainen and significantly better than Bogosian

There’s no secret why our blue line has been so poor until Dahlin arrived
