Peter Tessier: The Aftermath- where do the Jets start? The roster, the depth and the eventual moves to be made to build the kind of team the GM and coach want are critical to starting a successful offseason.

"long Forgotten Vessalainen" how did you forget about him? cause I'm pretty sure fans haven't.

Appleton
Vessalainen
Poolman
Niku

combined salary under 4 million should all be locks for full time roster spots.

As for all other UFA's and RFA's its anybody's guess who will be gone or back. the only guarantee is that there will be a surprise or two, maybe a hold out or two as well.....

This.

Not sure I saw one mention of Niku in the article.

The writers are always dancing around this supposed locker room issue. Why not come out and say what the rumour is?

HB is not exactly the best journalism and isn't it founded on rumours? At least EK will say a rumour, even though it might be off base.

Come on Pete, spill the beans and quit using this rumour crap unless you can back it up. Whose feathers are ruffled?

Hayes said something in an interview that made it sound like Laine or Ehlers were not happy when he was playing centre with them. Wish I could clearly remember the quote.

Honestly I only know as much as McIntyre has reported and have not yet read his piece from yesterday. Have heard that a division between Wheeler and Schiefele exists as Wheeler loves Pomo and Scheifele doesn't. Other than that guessing but I will get deets later.

Edit: Niku

I had a whole bunch of notes and forgot to add him to defense. Yes he's there next year simply because the Jets would not include him in a deal for Stone. My mistake.

As for Vesalainen I used that phrase to illustrate that he gets overlooked and could help for sure but where and who is out to make room?

"Would the Jets consider dealing Perreault to free up cap space...."

I will volunteer to drive him to the airport

So, like a true Hallmark movie plot, Wheeler loves PoMo, Scheifs doesn't like PoMo, and there is internal friction because of it.

But, you can't separate the two because they both want to play on the same line with each other due to their own selfishness of padding their own stats.

No offense intended to Pete, but you all need to stop thinking of bloggers as "journalists". They're not journalists. Many of them are wonderful writers and do a fine job of chasing down and sharing rumors. Very few have the formal training of a journalist.

It's going to be a very interesting off-season! Go Jets, Go!

The first move the Jets should do is dump Maurice. The Jets have Niku, Poolman, Appleton, Vesailainen, Stanley, Samberg, Nogier and Spacek that could be ready to step up to the Jets the next couple of seasons but with Maurice as the coach he will want the Jets to sign and keep older more expensive and less talented players. With Maurice as head coach this teams skilled draft and develop players are wasted in his dump and chase philosophy. What a shame.

Don't worry islansjet, based on the lineup Tessier provided in the article, the Jets will be out of playoff position by december 1 and Maurice fired.

What really irks me is this crap about players not wanting to play in Winnipeg.

Last time I checked, we have only lost 2 players to free agency and that is in 8 years of being here. I think every franchise in the NHL has lost the same over the same amount of time. Every team is operating under the same salary cap. The day players start signing in the KHL or other leagues to avoid playing in Winnipeg is the day I start believing that BS.

All players that will get less than 10 minutes a game as long coach Maurice has a job with the team.

I am also surprised that no one on this board has talked about the following two things:

1. Jacob Trouba wearing a Detroit Tigers hat. Gives me a good indication of where he wants to go.

2. Dustin Byfuglien no showing the press conference. Left before media eligibility and left his leadership responsibilities to Scheifele and Wheeler.

I think both players need to go.

Kyle Connor wore a Tiger's hat also, Wheeler was unbranded - no Warrior gear, Sheifle wore a hat that said Nike Golf Club

I agree that anyone wearing an 'A' should be participating in that conference.

Difference between Connor and Trouba, Connor has never requested a trade or taken the team to arbitration.

Another potential Trouba trade I was thinking of is similar to what Calgary got for Hamilton last season.

To NJ: Jacob Trouba

To WPG: Pavel Zacha, Sami Vantanen

Vatanen is a great target for us, but isn’t a top pairing dman.
Zacha is a bust

The Panthers might be a good fit for Trouba since he has a place in Fort Lauderdale. I'd love Trouba for Henrik Borgstrom, a 21 YO centre heading for the last year on his ELC and a conditional 1st/2nd rd pick if Trouba signs longterm. Maybe a package of players in exchange for Trouba's replacement from someplace else.

I was thinking NJ was a good trading partner for Trouba as well. I'd look at Severson and Wood for Trouba. Severson has term at an affordable hit and Wood could be a replacement for Tanev. Wood is faster, has better hands and is good on the pk.

We'd still need to go find a 2C but it would allow us to package wingers for something.
