Bad goal allowed by Holtby. Lousy play by defenseman along the boards. All four #1 seeds gone in the first round. Crazy playoffs.
- airjan23

First time ever that all four #1 seeds were eliminated in the 1st Round. The only first seed I felt would be ousted was Winnipeg after playing to a disappointing 16-16-2 record after the All Star break, in facing the Blues who had the second best post All Star record at 23-6-4, in trailing only Tampa Bay's 25-6-2 post All Star run.

Two bad goals allowed by Holtby.
(1) Aho's shorthanded Goal in the 2nd off a bad rebound Holtby practically tossed directly to him with his catching glove, off the slowest of shots goalies at any level cannot allow any rebound to occur. In contrast, Holtby should have caught & held onto the puck in his glove to stop play to allow his team to regroup.
(2) Staal's tying early 3rd period goal high to Holtby's blocker (long) side off a routine angle wrist shot from outside the face off dot inside the circle, despite having a 100% clear view. Holtby's positioning was poor in having his left pad outside the short side post, leaving too much room to the long side for Staal to score easily.

On the GWG, you can't pinpoint fault only on Holtby despite Williams pass from just shy of the goal line near the side boards, going right through the goal crease for McGinn to redirect in out of the air. But Holtby could have prevented that puck from ever reaching McGinn had he first been upright in stance in better positioning, instead of having his left pad down on the ice & stationed slightly behind the goal line. That gave him little chance to break up the pass, along with lesser of a chance to push off quickly & aggressively enough to make any sufficient & desperate attempt to stop McGinn's redirected tip in & series winning Double OT goal.

Skjei Vesey TBL 2nd for Trouba
- nyrangers9479

Two Springs ago, the Rangers and Jets were discussing a possible trade involving Trouba and Skjei. But the Jets had demanded a Rangers 1st Round pick be also included, which they refused to include. Then the Jets sought to expand the deal to a larger size trade, since they were interested in acquiring Raanta to replace Pavelec as their backup goalie. It was believed that the Jets still wanted a Rangers 1st Rounder included, without knowing who or what additional asset(s) they would be willing to add coming the Rangers way.

The Rangers broke off talks in knowing then that the Coyotes were interested in acquiring Stepan, and were willing to assume his full remaining contract, provided that Raanta be included in any trade to be their #1 starter. That trade was completed that June, in exchange for a 1st Round pick and Deangelo going to the Rangers. That cap space saved on Stepan allowed the Rangers to sign as a UFA your all time favorite Ranger in SHATTY to be their elusive RH shooter on the back line and to man the power play.

Carolina winning is good the chances for the Jets pick to be at #18 is still alive

we need Blue Jackets-Hurricanes and Dallas-Avalanche conference finals and we pick 18th

St Louis works too to get that pick to 18 but for obvious reasons we prefer Dallas

if conference finals are Islanders-Bruins and Sharks-Blues that is our worst scenario

we end up 21st pick and Dallas pick is 2nd rounder

We prefer a chance to obtain that extra 1st Rounder should Dallas win that series to reach the WC Finals, and settle for that Jets 1st Rounder to be slightly lower for now. We could always deal it along with some other additional asset(s) in some means to trade up for some other team's higher 1st Round pick anyway.

the biggest thing is definitely Dallas winning, no question, everything else is gravy

That sums it up very well with those additions you made here, Jim, (as for me re-posting my reply to your's).

I dont think Vesey has any interest for anybody, especially the Jets

they'll be trying to save every $$$ they can, definitely dont see them wasting 2.275 mil on Jimmy Vesey

It helps the Rangers for sure all the upsets, but I only picked 3 out of 8 series correctly. I don't know if anyone else did that free pool I posted the link too, but I'm almost afraid to look at the standings.

I'm not saying Vesey is great, but I think we somewhat undervalue him. He consistently scores close to 20 goals. Is his trade value alot? No. I don't think he's worth nothing though.

Serious question: have you ever spoken to a woman and referred to her as "m'lady"?

Has anyone in the last 60 years? What happened first pre 1994, the Rangers last cup or using that term?

Never made sense to me...why does it depend on the nest round still? Since the Jets are out shouldn't it factor in when they lost in the playoffs?

I work in the department that oversees all of these things. It's a rare occurrence for this to happen and it is most likely caused by us having to vacate one of our oldest buildings. Moving everything to new servers at another site doesn't always go easily. Hopefully the outage is short since I have poop to do, but I am expecting an extended day of doing nothing. At least the internet still works.

Predictions wise, I only had 4 of 8 correct, starting with the series win by St. Louis in defeating the only 1st place seed in WPG. who I thought would be ousted in Round 1, due to their disappointing 16-16-2 record after the All Star break, while the Blues were second best behind only Tampa for the best post All Star break record. I also felt that Boston, Dallas, and San Jose (although by a miracle comeback in Game 7), would all advance to Round 2.

I never could have imagined that besides WPG, all three other first place seeds would all be eliminated in the first round for the first time in NHL history, starting with Tampa Bay most disappointing for Rangers fans extra draft hopes benefits.

I've learned "new server" means replacing the one that is 20 years old, with something that's 5-10 years old.

If the Caps and Vegas could have held multiple goal leads, I would have gone 5-8, which woulda been pretty good all things considering. I don't know if you are in the same pool I am, but I think I get some help by fluky bonus points. For example, I had Calgary over Colorado in 5, but I'll get some bonus points for correctly predicting 5 games as the series length.

Fortunately not for us. We don't have anything ancient (mostly) and all of our replacement equipment is new and typically very high end. We support a lot of users so the equipment needs to be up to the task.

I guess you are lucky where you are at there isn't alot of red tape. I won't get into all the specifics because it really isn't interesting, but the last server we had replaced was a new one that had just been sitting around for 5 years because no one did all the necessary approvals and undertaken the process of making sure everything was backed up and functional. Sometimes the amount of sign offs around here to do minor stuff drives me to drink.
