Peter Tessier: Explanations vs Excuses now that season is over Taking the first look at where the Jets go from here- be critical of the explanations but don't let them become excuses.

So, does this mean Ehlers and Copp are available?

As a St Louis Blues fan a shout-out to the Jets team and the City of Winnipeg for great series.

Byfuglien going to Tampa Bay makes the most sense. The Jets are going to be in a retool and the best way to jump start that is to trade a 34 year old Byfuglien. I think Byfuglien for Sergachev and Stralman should be enough to get it done.

Tampa Bay could use Byfuglien for a cup run.

Absolutely not at all. Even slightly. Literally 0 availability on those two.

I will, however, offer you Connor and Little, for the right price

I’d actually consider this. The only problem being the uncertainty around Trouba. Well, and Buff being better than both players being acquired, which is a possible setback

In your opinion.....how did Hayes play?

Do Jets fans want to resign him?

Tampa refused to give up sergachev for karlsson.....there is ZERO chance he goes in a deal for Buff.

Also, in the unlikely event that a deal is made centering around those two, the jets are the ones adding to the deal, not Tampa.

The Jets have had 8 years to build into a contender, and the only success so far was a second round victory courtesy of Pekka Rinne. So everybody on this team should be available for the right price.

And no i'm not talking about blowing up the team, but if you want to get someone of value you might have to trade someone of value.

Its time for our GM to make a bold move, either in a blockbuster trade or a big UFA signing. I think the locker room needs a shake-up.

Difference between dealing Sergachev to Ottawa and Winnipeg is that Ottawa is a division rival. Could see Tampa Bay dealing him out of the conference.

He had the chance to get Stone at the deadline and wouldn’t pony up a top prospect and a 1st. What on earth makes you think he will do it now

Sure.....but buff isn’t on the same planet as karlsson in terms of talent.

They very well could deal him, but it absolutely won’t be for buff. Sergachev is as good or better, right now, and is 13 years younger.

The Cup window will never be wider than it was the past 2 seasons

Now you've got Wheeler signed for too much for too long

Threw away a 1st on Kevin Hayes rental

Laine is due his mega deal

Brian Little is a meh player with term and dollars

Kyle Conner has 2 breakout seasons and will want his cash

Myers is gone, or Trouba will be gone and Myers will take his $$$

Andrew Copp, Brandon Tanev, due raises that will add up

Is Hellebuyck and Ehlers really worth those $$$ ?

At least *some* of the players can act as trade chips, but you will lose on every trade unless you accept prospects/picks that will result in the team taking a step back

I thought Q would be the perfect coach to get the Jets to the next level. I was surprised he took the FLA deal before waiting to see how the playoffs shook out.

The Jets have too much talent to not have made the SC finals.

Good luck in the offseason. Perhaps the Hawks and Jets can do something to make both teams stringers.

This is a good point. Cheveldayoff is a do nothing GM and makes more reactive moves as opposed to being proactive. There is nothing on earth but hope that makes me want to think he will do something.

I agree that Karlsson is a generational player and I have stated many times that he is the best player in the NHL. Buff though brings a physical element to the game that Tampa seems to be lacking. Though Sergachev is younger, the window for Tampa to win the cup is closing fast.

Assets I could entertain parting with for Ehlers include the #8 pick, the 2020 1st, prospects and Nurse. Cap would need to be close to an even swap.

I don't know how high I'd go for Copp. Even if he excels in his role, it's still a limited role. What's the ask?

So I guess everyone's silence on my Hayes question is that he isn't wanted back. Lol

Stralman is a UFA

Sergachev makes 894K, Buff makes 7.6 mil and Tampa has worse cap problems than you guys
