But how is it a changing of the guard when tampa and Calgary are two of the youngest teams in the league? Calgary even shocked everyone by even being the top team in the west. Now if you want to say the pens getting swept and la and Chicago sucking now is changing of the guard, that I can agree with. Or if you want to say all the top seeds are getting upset...well again I can agree with that.

Calgary is older than Colorado. CGY average age is at 26.7 and Colorado is 26.2

>>>The Avalanche, when they are good are just a great team. plain and simple. If they can draft a stud D-man with Ottawa's pick next year they are going to be tough to stop.<<<

Can say that about any team. When they were bad like losing 28 of 43 they were really bad. And a top dman pick does not make them "tough to stop." Like any team in the NHL they could go south over a few seasons. And really its one series. Nothing "historic" about it.

Calgary got fat in a very weak Pac playing the likes of the ducks, nucks, kings and yotes and oiler. Aves took adv of matchup favorables and Grubs out goalied smith. Also the flames played very poor team defense.

so go canes and stars make it a clean wild card sweep...

The "Stud" Dman you say they need is on he ice #8. Also, with Timmins and Graves in the prospect pool, Colorado needs to draft a 2nd C with Ott pick.

1) CGY isn’t necessarily old, so your argument is bland
2) CGY only one the West because the conference as a whole was down this year (WPG and NSH primarily) and they feasted on a poor Pacific Division.

Flames getting destroyed isn’t really that shocking, if anything it could be argued Colorado was the superior team going in. I’d take a hot Avs vs a cold Flamers any day of the week and twice on Sunday

The question on everybody's mind is what are you going to have for lunch? A turkey ham and cheese panini with a side of chicken noodle soup. E3

The Flames were one of the worst 1 seeds in recent memory. Sure it is an upset but I really think that Chicago would have beat them if they made the playoffs.

Calgary being downed by Colorado isn’t as surprising as Columbus taking out Tampa Bay. But really in the NHL, NOBODY is an automatic win in the playoffs. Although I’m still shocked the lightning got swept. Going out in a long series would have been surprising but a 4 game beat down....

Going in goaltending was the biggest question mark for CGY.

It was one of their strengths in the series

What is goaltender interference?

I guess we know why Rogers paid 5.2 billion for the broadcasting rights eh

This is a terrible look for the NHL

You were talking about the whole old guard new guard thing from a day or so ago. The comment makes no sense given that Calgary didnt face an old guard team

Tampa was a shock, Calgary not so much. IMO there were three teams that I thought could be top in the West: Preds, Jets and Vegas. All three underwhelmed at points during the season (Preds and Jets now battling to see who can be the bigger disappointment). It was ripe for a team to swoop in.

I still like the hot teams going into the playoffs. I'd love to see a Blues/Avs conference final. Even as a Preds fan...

My thoughts going in to these playoffs were that any team could win any of these series because there wasn't really any standouts, other than Tampa. I thought they were the only team that was a lock. They're really the only team that stood out. So I don't know what an elite team in the NHL is anymore.

it's not a changing of the guard, but rather some teams that have been in playoff mode since beginning of march and others all to complacent.

I am sorry but are under the impression the broadcasters make these decisions?

Ek keeps making this old versus young. It would be far more accurate to write an article about how offensive teams are struggling to score in the playoffs. That's your story.

Tampa. Number one offense. Gone.
Calgary. Number 2. Gone.
Pittsburgh. Number 6. Gone.

In some of these series the average age is less than a year apart. This isn't old versus young.

Tampa Bay lost for the same reason the Golden State Warriors lost to Cleveland a couple of years back. They spent too much energy chasing the single season win record, as the Warriors did when they won 73 games, and had lost their focus and drive for the playoffs. Not being distracted by that goal next year, as they have already accomplished it, will make them a better and more dangerous team next year.

I don't think you understand how it works, Rogers paid 5.2B for the broadcasting rights. They've lost a poopload of money since signing that deal

Why do you think you are bombarded with Rogers commercials during the games staring Queef players? Buy this Iphone...Get this Rogers plan...download this app..use your data guppy so we can make bankk

It's in Rogers best interest for the Queefs to stay in the playoffs as long as possible so they continue to make money off not only the ratings but those constant ads pushing their products

Let me explain it in terms you should be able to understand, SNC Lavalin funded Sock boy's campaign in return he scratched their back and tried to cover up their corruption and allow them to break the law

It's similar here, it's big business, that's why you saw the NHL brass intervene on that goal last night that was as blatant as a goaltender interference as it gets and made sure they DID NOT overturn it. Friedman was even in awe questioning that last night after that game saying he's never seen that happen before where the head of the league stepped in to influence a call in the control room
