I mentioned last summer that Marner had the least reason of any NHL RFA to sign a deal. His TOI was terrible in his career given his production and he was going to join Tavares and play the most this season. Everything screamed massive breakout.

The guy had not even had a single full year as a top 6 forward yet and had seasons of 61 and 69 points. I'd bet on myself as well.

Radioheads were pointing out the ludicrous amount of marketing and ads Marner specifically has been in and using it as leverage with his agent regarding his monetary value off the ice being influenced by the fact that he is a Leaf. Doubt it will make a mark, but it might help have a few 100k.

I don't see how they let him go... but it will mean other players are going and probably at least one of Johnsson/Kapanen does not get re-signed.
