Man so far the Isles just play ugly at times and capitalize when they can...

And since when did Jordan Eberle turn into Selanne... Think the Oil could use this guy on McFranchise’s wing?? How bad is Chia pet, my lord...

Pens have the ability to win this series but need to smarten up and start letting their formidable skill take over. And it would help if Murray could outplay Lehner for a game or so.

Eberle has always been a stud. Chia is just a retard.

End of the day Sullivan focused on the wrong thing after the Game 1 loss, and pretty much everyone on this board knew that was gonna happen. Even if we come back and win this series, it won’t matter with Sullivan being out coached like this.

Absolutely agree on the Islanders having better coaching. Agree on putting Adam in the lineup. Disagree on the JJ “hit” - if Pelech was a driver and he merged lanes without looking 10/10 people would say “wtf are you doing”

Having said the Islanders have been the better coached team... our individual efforts/decisions have been bad. Letang leaving Nelson alone in front in game 1 was bad. Dumo pinching up the wall on that same play was also bad. Gudbranson got walked by Lee last night. Gudbranson also let that pass come across on the first goal last night and then he slid by the net. He was in a good spot but take the damn pass away and let Murray take the shooter! Credit to the Islander forwards: not only are they forechecking hard but their ability to create passing lanes on the breakout has been fantastic so far

Penguins aren’t flipping a lot of pucks out so far. We’re doing a lot of passes up the wall and then someone crashes down on that guy neutralizing him and maybe he sends the other two forwards up the ice 2 vs 3 or the weak side defender joins and it’s 4 vs 3. I would like to see more foot races, get those Islander defenders facing the other direction and let them make their own mistakes - we’re making them look pretty damn good

I’m no expert on who the coaches are out there but I was in favor of a change earlier this season. I’m not alone here but I also know there isn’t a ton of support either. I like AVs systems, but I don’t like his reliance on the older vets (like Tanner Glass...). Our possession game seems stale these days

This is the biggest thing. Sullivan refuses to realize he can’t keep the same system in place.

I said over and over that I hated this matchup because of the Isles style of play; it’s the Penguins kryptonite.

Quite a few around here, including RW were confident after game 1...so how would everyone be feeling today had they won game 1 in OT which they totally could of?. It's the 2 losses that are making people lose sight of everything after the first 5 mins of game 1.

I agree with alot being said about Sully but at the end of the day it's not on him that they can't execute tape to tape passes or keep edges when skating. Sloppy AF.

It's a best of 7 series... The Isles took 2 at home, only being the truly best on the ice in game 2. Now the Pens have to take 2. Sully will have last change. We'll see what happens but I just know they're better than we saw last night and I only have to look as far as the game before to see it because even with how bad the D and Crosby's line was at times, they still overall had a good chance filled game.

Love how Wilson’s avoiding the Islanders 4th line. Those buns that they are, don’t deserve to be in an nhl sweater.

Chiarelli did more to build up the current Islanders team than Garth Snow. Boychuk, Barzal, Eberle, and Beauvillier would all not be Islanders right now had it not been for Chia. Those are basically their best players! Three of them are young and if they are not Cup contenders this year they will be in the future. If they ever win it they should petition to get Chiarelli's name on the Cup with their team. Say what you want about Snow but he fleeced Chia on three separate occasions (indirectly when Chia passed up Barzal in the draft).

I was hoping JR could have gotten something more from Chia before he was fired. Oh well.

As for the current situation, I think playing at home will help. The ice surface and other crappy conditions of that arena I think have played into the Islanders favor (who I am assuming are used to it). This does mean that the Pens have no room for error at home and still have to find a way to win a game there. And Malkin has to play smarter.

I am listening to what Mike Rupp said last night. Chip and chase, force the Isles D to give up the blue line, then carry the puck. Remember Rupper played on the old Lamarillo teams and Trotz also likes that type of hockey. He knows how to beat their system.

The Islanders are playing as well as they can play. They are absolutely flying out there. Lehner is playing out of his mind. This is going to be their best round of the playoffs, by far. They are not a young team, at some point they are going to tire and Lehner is going to come down to earth. But it won't be this round.

If we ended up winning Game 1, Sullivan probably doesn't make the stupid "adjustments" that he made. If we stayed the course from Game 1 and just made a couple of X's and O's adjustments, I'd be pretty confident right now, even if we still lost last night. But the adjustments that were made to the lineup and style of play have made us imminently more beatable. I said before the series started that if The Pens played their best brand of hockey and the Isles played their best brand of hockey, the Pens would take the series pretty easily, but if Sullivan made bad decisions that prevented us from being our best, we'd be in trouble. And here we are, after game 2 being down 0-2 because Mike Sullivan decided that what he needed to do after Game 1 was tighten up at the expense of driving play.

Yeah I know there's alot on Sully here but the players gotta take blame too. Like I said, Sully is not responsible for the sloppy passing, skating and missed nets/posts.

I didn’t forget everything after the first 5 of game one. I saw the significant difference in game 2 from game 1.

Game 1 they were generating chances.

Game 2 they looked horrendous for the majority of the game, throwing passes into each other’s feet, terrible bank passes, passes to no mans land, east west passes before the zone entry, no one could win a puck battle on a dump in, it was bad all around. Dumb penalties from everyone involved. Dmen chasing behind the net.

And I get that, but that's super fixable. A player has a bad game? That sucks, but maybe the next game he plays up to his ability or you make some X's and O's changes to counteract why said player was ineffective. But if the coach hones in on the wrong thing and makes adjustments that put us in an even worse position than before, you can't fix that. The coach needs to change his mind, and that rarely ever happens.
