Thank god that train wreck of a season is over...
Hopefully the hockey gods gift us a top draft spot and we get a killer player; but this team needs some real work. We aren't drafting our way out of this. Maybe we can stop being a small market team and bring in some players a little better then Drew Stafford. Use some of that great cap space which didn't do Richard for us this season.

I don't think it has to do with market size. The team doesn't have a competitive roster right now so it's not easy to entice players to sign with the Devils. And NJ isn't exactly a hotbed for hockey and can't compete with the larger hockey markets. Ownership has shown a willingness to be a cap team as they were in 2012. If players were leaving via UFA because the Devils wouldn't pony up the cash then I would agree with you, but that's not the case. |

The whole "why didn't they spend money on FAs" narrative is so uninteresting. Does anybody remember the big free agents from last year and what did they even do for their teams. A lot of mediocre players got overpaid by teams, so why do we even care. We weren't in the running for big name FAs because they want to go to playoff teams and signing depth players for too much money doesn't turn this team around. |

It was funny reading those past draft forums because most people had their share of "crystal ball" moments as well as "this didn't age well".
I said Griffin Reinhart was one of the league's best D prospects |

Watched Dach play last night. He scored a nice goal. But when Prince Albert caught up to them, the guy had very little presence.
I don't like him. I really hope, if the Devils are 5th, that they don't take Cozens or Dach... I'm giving them a chance but... |

I dont think thats the case anymore.PLayers love playing for HYNEs and NJD have a lot of cap room....
The players who do leave dont want to now.....
Marron went home ( he would have been a great signing ) .
Grabner did not fit.
Boyle was traded but loved it here.
JohnMorre was squeezed out by NJD trying to get younger.
Lovejoy traded and also loved it here.
------
Still need a big RW for Hall and NICO....Palmieri is good but can not go to the net. his value is shooting from the circles. I think they ar trying to put Bastian there... as a JIC ........ sign Eberle or a big RW...Maroon was perfect and would have had a career year.

I think if Bastian turns into a similar player to Maroon we can all be happy. I don't think his ceiling is much higher than that. |

Good read. No idea who the Devils pick if they're 5 or 6 - devilspep
Wow Dach at 10. Seems like opinion is starting to spread on him.
Between Hughes, Kakko, Byram, Podkolzin, Turcotte and Krebs, there's going to be someone really worth having at 6 in the worst case. Just have to dodge a few bullets with Dach and Cozens to a lesser extent |

Where is the Conn Smythe Award?....we certainly had alot of players who conned Shero and Hynes into putting them in the lineup and paying them a professional hockey players salary! |

Not where we're picking. Wouldn't be opposed to trading up to get him if he falls though. |

Maybe bundle a couple of our 2nds for a mid to late 1st? Do the opposite of Lou, go for quality and not quantity. |

Some good quotes today from the exit interviews from Hall, saying he's very comfortable here in NJ, but also acknowledged the lack of talent/holes on the roster that need to be addressed, needing both additions and current players to get better. Mentioned that finishing 29th as opposed to 5 points out of the playoffs is a better situation for us. Also said he's at the point in his career where he certainly thinks about playing for a perennial playoff contender. If thats not an eye opener for Ray to make moves this summer, then idk what is.
Might be an extreme take here, but basically add more talent and make our roster better or he's not staying here it seems |

I don't think that's extreme. And I don't blame Hall for saying what he did. He's been on some really bad teams, and the only sniff at success was when he was the MVP.

Very true! Shero was asked about priorities for this summer, he pretty much said, "Getting more talent." We're well positioned with draft picks and as for spending money in FA he reiterated what he said and reminded people that he would spend when the time is right, and he slipped in, "the time is getting close". So take that however you will, hopefully his actions back up his words. This is a huge offseason for our team, and future most likely |
