My dead horse gets beaten once again...
To win this series the Pens are going to have to play ugly, get pucks on not, stop waiting for the perfect pass or set-up, get bodies to the net and make life hell on Greiss and Lehner. Make it hard for them to see shots. |
|
|
|
If the Pens played with a higher level of consistency this season I would say they would dominate this series. However, even coming down the stretch their play was inconsistent and they gave up too many odd man chances. As it is, I give them about a 50-60% chance of winning.
The best line in the all-star game was the Crosby-Barzal-Letang line. It is interesting that they are now playing against each other in the playoffs.
One of Chiarelli's lasting legacies is making the Metro Division better, by giving the Pens Schultz, giving NJ Hall, giving the Islanders Boychuk and Eberle, and trading the Barzal pick to the Islanders. |

Patience and defensively detailed. Basically the opposite of how they played last night. |

The Isles are not a very offensively gifted team. They're basically playing 90's NJ Devils hockey. Their goalies see most of their shots which gives them a much better chances of saving them.
The Pens also need to be very careful about pinching too often. The Isles thrives on the counter-attack, so if the Pens overcommit they're going to get caught every time.

I'm not as much worried about consistency as I am adaptability. The Pens can't play every team the same way.

It's basically the exact kind of system that's driven the Penguins nuts for a decade. If the Pens play like the last month and a half they'll be fine. If they play like the first 4 months, they'll get embarrassed. |

This system is the Pens' kryptonite. When the Pens play teams that are more aggressive, they buckle down and do a similar style to the Isles.
Ideally, the Pens play ugly hockey until it breaks the Isles' goalies then the Isles start opening up their game to get those goals back which plays right into the hands of the Pens' style. Again, I think that's the proper way to play them.
If the Pens keep getting forced to dump and chase, stay to the perimeter and never get in front of the goalies they're done. |

Marshall made a good point that it might be better for the Pens to start on the road for this series because they're more likely to keep it simple and that's how they need to play against the Isles. Can't beat themselves with turnovers, force the Isles to earn their goals. |

So I saw this... which is just an amusing typo/coding thing.
Also bored so trying to decide who would be who for Disney... Geno = Goofy is an easy shot.
Kessel for Gaston is my pick, eating all those eggs and singing about himself |

Kessel for Gaston makes zero sense. Gaston is a physical specimen, fitness freak, adonis, which is clearly Letang. Kessel and his bench side tantrums are very clearly Donald Duck. |

Disney had the Islanders stadium booked this weekend. The NHL must have bought them out of the friday slot. Im sure Disney hosed them on the deal. |
