Hey Duff. So who are these fans you speak of? The delusional ones who think this last 10 games indicates we're going to be great next year?

I don't know a single Wings fan who feels this way. Our defense sucks. Next year, we have Green, Daley, Ericsson and Dekeyser signed. And probably an extension for Kronwall coming. No playoffs with that trash.

I wonder if score affects within a game can also be applied or are relevant to an entire season. The team that gains an early lead often plays a conservative style for the remainder, allowing the opposition to get a lot of shots. I wonder if something similar happens with teams that are pretty much locked in playoff position towards the new year. It would kind of explain how a team like Detroit or last year's Panthers are able to win a bunch of games at the end of the season.

Of course, teams scratching some of the top talent so that they are rested could be an explanation, however, I didn't see that happening much this year aside from the last 2 or 3 games of the season.
