Carol Schram: Trade chatter quiet around Vancouver Canucks are shut out by Islanders The Vancouver Canucks put pucks on net, as they say, but couldn't get anything past Robin Lehner as they were shut out for the eighth time this season in a 4-0 loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday night.

Thanks Carol.

Remarkably, in just a week, it looks like the Ryan Spooner trade has already gone from a no-risk proposition to an L for Jim Benning. Gifted with a prime spot alongside Pettersson and Boeser, Spooner's ice time dwindled over the course of the game. He played 14:15 and had four shots on goal against the Coyotes, but played just 1:46 in the third period on Saturday, mostly with Markus Granlund and Adam Gaudette, and finished the night with one shot on goal in 9:44 of ice time.

Meanwhile, Sam Gagner has scored in two-straight games and got the game-winner for Edmonton against Anaheim on Saturday. Sigh.

So we went from paying Gagner to score against the Utica Comets to trading him to the Oilers to push us down the standings.

And some people think JB is an idiot.

Thx much Carol well done.

lol Spooner has played two games and the sky is falling.

But I do wish Gagner well and hope he succeeds in EDM...seems to be a comfort zone for him there.

Anyhow off to the races literally...Anyone have any horse racing tips for Santa Anita today??

You further point out my repeated need for scoring from the D 👍

Sad to say but Edler had a renaissance year on scoring but got injured as we are used to. We need to resign him like it or not. As for Tanev it’s 50/50 other than he is a RHD & we need that like many teams seek. Stecher simply cannot provide offense nor do i see it happening down the road. Hutton is better all around & should be a 4-5 D for us. EG being a 5-6 for his style. The others are plugs at best.

Hughes & Woo bring hope but we need much more than them longterm. Byram would be perfect but likely gone before we pick so we can presume BPA being a F. Who that could be is interesting.

25th place & 7oa for the draft

Can see us bottom 5 & the wildcard a pipe dream. 2 long losing streaks make it so.

Taxes in Canada suck, media sucks, and when was last time an elite free agent chose a Canadian market to get big money, that wasnt TOR, and was a losing team at that. Big dreams in here.

If Panarin said he would consider van and tor, gotta take him at his word. Nice to hear demko skating, crunch time will be hard to earn wins down the stretch.

Tavares only elite UFA in recent memory.

if we're looking at UFA's next year, how about Skinner and Myers.

Skinner-EP-Brock
Sven-Bo-Leivo
Rousell-Gaudette-JV
Eriksson-Beagle-Motte
Mackewen.

Spooner waived (again)
Granlund walks
Goldobin, Schaller moved
Sutter retired

Edler-Tanev
Stetcher-Myers
Hutton-Hughes
Guddy

oh, i'l let you know when an elite player reaches free agency.

If you're talking coveted and (over)paid players, my examples stand.

It's been reported by multiple times that he includes Van and Tor on his trade list. I'm not sure that necessarily means he would sign with us though.

Speaking of Lucic...Eklund has mentioned Lucic to Mtl.

If they can ship him out of town, that'll be 2/2 on recent trades after Gagner.

Lucic and Puju for spare parts?

Benning would get lynched if he traded away assets or picks.
