Does Nashville really have the high end assets to compete with the Jets and Islanders?
They might help boot strap other teams into making stronger bids. But a #1 pick is essentially equivalent from any of those teams currently being discussed. So, the real difference maker is the prospect(s) or player(s) offered up in a deal. Dorion's drafting history suggests he is more inclined to take a larger risk when it comes to selecting a best defensive prospect.
I have thought the Islanders were the best destination for Duchene and I think the piece that gets Dorion excited is Dobson. |

May be a big ask for a rental Duchene |

The Sens had better find a way to sign Stone - he's 27, seems like a good presence to have in a locker room, has talent on the ice... the list goes on. You need some vets to build around and he's a great choice.
Lose/trade him along with Duchene, and you're left with what, vet-wise? Boro and Ryan? |

Does it matter? Sharks got Karlsson without giving up one. Hoffman didn't bring any back. Doesn't seem like the Sens either care, or have the competency, to land such assets. |

Sounds like an Oiler rebuild. Except no first rounder in a tank year. |

Next year will be a huge crash year. Watch to see if Dorion targets draft picks from next year rather this year.
By my count the Sens will be bringing as many as 9 rookies into camp next September that have a legitimate shot at being in the line up on opening night.
Balcers, Batherson, Brown, Formenton, Wolanin, Norris, Chlapik and Bernard Docker. I realize some of them might not qualify as rookies by next year if they are brought up for the remainder of this season (Balcer, Batherson, Brown, Wolanin, Chlapik).
You can also assume that Dorion picks up at least 2 or 3 prospects (or young roster players) that will be added to the list. The goal here is to develop a deep pool of prospects. Three years out before it starts to come together. Hate to see Stone go. But the future is not now. Tanking next year is not an option. It is a certainty. |

Let's be clear. Everyone jumped all over Dorion on the Karlsson trade. Yet, as time goes by the deal looks a lot better. Demelo, Tierney and Balcers are good young NHL players. Norris is a stud. Sens are likely getting two more first round picks. Not bad. |

I hope the Jets move onto either Hayes or Staal if the price or bidding gets too high. Not worth selling the farm for a rental. I think these teams still have lots of option s available. |

Too funny. Perhaps Leaf fans forget about Seguin and Hamilton. Too funny.
Took Leaf fans nearly 20 years to finally look at reality. |

Leaf fans are into a little rewrite of their history. Soon enough they will be trying to figure out how to deal with their cap crisis. Perhaps as soon as next year. |

Sens have been a great experience since they have come into the league. Some of the most fun years were the very beginning. They had a stretch where they were the best offensive team in the league and they went to the SCF. As recently as two years ago they went to the Conference final. But like every cycle they now need to rebuild.
Once people get into rebuild mode, it will be fun again. Took the Leafs nearly 30 years to figure it out. But, they are scheduled to choke against Boston in the first round. If they get past Boston, they play Tampa. Not pretty.
This is a good window in terms of Sens rebuilding.

Blues are my dark horse candidate to get Duchene. They have some really strong, young skaters in their system.
I still think when the dust settles, Duchene is in Long Island. |

I'd like to see Duchenne go to one team and Stone to the other.
Ottawa gets 2 first rounders, plus multiple pieces, for these two guys.
Then Ottawa trades Dzingel for a 1st plus, and they trade the goalchie too for a useful pick and prospect.
And Ceci for a 1st and prospect... |
