Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks' young guns fuel their shootout win over the Kings Playing their third game in four nights, with two more regulars sidelined due to injury, the Vancouver Canucks' young core of Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Adam Gaudette and Troy Stecher came through to fuel the team's 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Centre.

Thanks Carol . I think Petey is a lock for Calder. He is like a rock star already. We might be looking at a generational player here.

I still remember when he was drafted and my buddy and I were like "who the heck is that!? Why didn't he take Glass". The next year EP had that monster year in Sweden and we were then like "oh that's why"

I thought Brisebois did just fine, and Travis Green seemed to concur:

Green on Brisebois: "You know what, I was happy with his game. Surprisingly happy. I hadn't seen him really for a long time, even in practice. He looked comfortable, his skating was noticeable, I thought he moved the puck well. Couple tough breaks but I was happy with his game."

Thanks for this analysis, last night as I watched Brisebois I thought he did ok also, then to see criticism and manvan post someone else's assessment that they were basically underwhelmed I thought, wow what a tough crowd.

I guess with the impact that both Boeser and Pettersson had on team maybe people are expecting all rookie players to have the same impact.

BTW, great blog again.

I wanted Glass but was not surprised at all when they took him. There was lots of speculation Canucks were after him. I am so glad we got him. It is finally nice to see something positive go Canucks way.

Defence is so tough to judge, because it's so easy to point at the one mistake and miss the other ten shifts that had good simple plays.

I think a few on here will be excited about Schenn. I'm not much of a fan, but to be honest I'm not a fan of Biega or Poo either so why not? Also, he plays with more snarl than anyone we have probably. I don't hate it.

I thought Bries looked just fine. He looked like a rookie playing his first game. He looked like a smart player that learns from mistakes. I liked his composure . He is a good puck mover and will get a lot better with experience.

These kids they are bringing up look ready to try to fit in . They look prepared .

Not going to be much room for JB hate if he keeps churning late picks into NHLers. Development in AHL has clearly been working for AG, and I would say in general.

I think the Trio of Benning Johnson and Brackett make a good group. I don't like Jim as a stand alone authority. Two heads are better than one. Three is even better

Everyone rants on the d but the forwards have to clear the zone to, how many turnovers at our blueline by the forwards that turn into outnumbered situations.

I think the canucks have a fine development system. For 20 years now the development system has produced when given players who can be developed.

Cooke - 144th
Ruutu - 68th
Bieksa - 151st
Kesler - 23rd
Edler - 91st
Schneider - 26th
Raymond - 51st
Hutton - 147th

Other than Kesler and Schneids, the rest were unknown commodities who were developed into NHL players by a canuck system.

Horrific drafting has handcuffed the staff responsible for getting players ready for NHL hockey. If you look at the number of players drafted who have played less than 20 NHL games, its unbelievable.

It's not like these players went on to have good NHL careers with other teams. They just didn't have the stuff to even get there. Nobody was able to develop these players into serviceable professionals. Considering the watered down quality of a 30 team league... again unbelievably bad choices.
