I bet Duchene and Stone both end up sticking around. It sounds like they both would be happy staying, and unless they're asking for something crazy like McDavid money, why wouldn't you resign them.

All the trade suggestions getting thrown around sound pretty meh. If Stone and Duchene stay, they have a decent enough core to turn things around in a couple years. If not, who knows how long until they're even remotely competitive again.

It's not really about the money, it's about if they want to stay in this circus of an organization. And the probably don't but like the city.

It could all just be PR talk, but they have both publically said that they'd like to stay. It's not the usual, "I don't want to negotiate my contract in season."

Yes and the Sens say they want to sign both. Perhaps everyone is being less than truthful.

Next year's team could be like the beginning of the movie Major League....we could have Dean and Gord looking up names to find out what obscure penitentiary league they last played in..."Willy Mays Hays!"

At least ticket prices will go down because the on ice product is lower right?

Ryan cannot keep the pace and is terrible on the ice.....he can’t be considered a leader

I posted this late last night on the other thread, but what do people feel about trading Dzingel to the caps?

Say,
To Washington : Dzingel

To Ottawa : 1st Round Pick, 3rd round pick

Funny how everyone is down on Ryan but Duchene and Dzingel are having career years with him. Hyman doesnt get much credit for Mathews and Nylander last year either.

Best case scenario:
- Sign Stone $9M x 8 years, Duchene $8.25 x 8 years
- Dzingel to Boston for 1st 2020, 3rd 2019
- Ceci to Tampa for 2nd 2019
- Tierney to NYI for 2nd 2019, 4th 2020
- Nilsson to Nashville for 3rd 2019

If Ryan could skate like Duchene, he'd be one of the best wingers in the league.

Jesus, if I could skate like Duchene I would be one of the second best wingers in the league!

You forgot the part about launching Melnyk into space, never to be seen again.

I do not see how Melnyk is around for the move to LeBreton. I think mediation resolves the current LeBreton impasse. If Melnyk is the player "to be named later" in a Stone or Duchene trade I will be content.

The only thing the Sens management/owner(kind of...much better though) have improved upon this season is keeping their mouths quiet. The way it should be.
Although everything is speculation right now. Odds say big trades are coming at this point and time with no contracts being signed.
From a blind fan point of view. I can envision with the team right now . The aquisition of a key D man along with the talent to pick from in the Bsens . They would be in playoffs next year
It seems with that formula they still would be heavy youth laden for future success along with current high end vet talent.

Is that not where they want to be in 3 years? And it seems they are right here now.

If you want to keep vets as a core leadership that is fairly simple.
Stone
Duchene
Ryan (because his contract make him almost impossible to move)
Anderson (he should be retiring soon)

The young core
Tkachuk
Dzingel
Chabot
White
Brown
Batherson
Formenton
Gus (Future #1 Goalie)

With a core like that, some tweaking, a commitment from Management and ownership to win, and even more young kids coming up.

That has the makings of a contender in a couple years.

I also think that's the best way to sell Stone and Duchene, Show them what the young future coming up is going to look like.

Dzingel is the same age as Stone, one year younger than Duchene.

I really like Dzingel, but in all reality he should be traded for a 1st rounder.

The other two should be signed to 8-9m cap hit deals. It's insane if they aren't. If both are traded, as people have mentioned- they're going to need to take on contracts to get to the floor. If Melnyk really is as broke as we think he is- I could see him taking on contracts covered by insurance- Clarkson, Lupul, etc.

If that's the case, the NHL needs to take notice and step in. It'll be too late, obviously... but at least the owner would be gone.

I agree. It really seems they are here where they want to be in the future. Some tweaks needed for sure but not far off from what they say will happen in 3-5 years

I think it's just because Dzingel looks like an 18 year old that I always think of him as young lol

I don't know about "much better"

I think the points totals are deceiving based on one conference being stronger than the other.

I think Ottawa is better than a few Western Conference teams, but still a bottom 5 team in the league

Without a physical #2 Dman, this team will struggle in its own end.

I really like the youth depth.

I think next year they will be full in on the Lefreniere sweeps. It is a much better draft than this year. Watch to see that the deals they do are for more picks next year.
