That was my point...not the loss of a conditional pick, although it's weird as it appears to be the Penguins helping out CBJ. Maybe GMJR traded JJ, and our 1st to anyone for a 6th! (fingers crossed) - iworkatinitech
I don't think Prow has much value, but maybe he's a part of a package deal? |

Ok, call me crazy, but why not try to build a super line and then let the rest fall where they may. It's obvious that changes are needed and with two of the best elite forwards in the world, you (the Pens coach) have the luxury of experimenting around. So, put Malkin, Crosby, and Guentzel on the same line. Or Malkin - Crosby - Kessel if that works. Either one of those lines would create nightmares for opponents.
I get the need to spread the wealth around and keep Sid and Geno on different lines. But sometimes you gotta stack one mega-line and roll with that if nothing else is working.
The Lightning have been trying to keep Stamkos and Kucherov separated. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I'd like to see the Bolts do what I suggested the Pens do - overload a line. Put Point-Stamkos-Kucherov on a line and see what happens.

The Penguins defense isn't good enough to do this. What happens if the Pens load up is the bottom six will be weak and easy to play against, and the defense isn't good enough to make up for it. |

But, if I do that, who will give me precious validation that I sorely require?

I don't understand why Prow hasn't gotten at least a look with Schultz out....
He's a right handed defenseman and has 15 goals this season so far...... even if he can't play a lick of defense he's still able to play on his natural side and maybe actually contribute on the 2nd PP unit. |

Nobody understands what they're trying to accomplish on D. Unless they're trying to miss the playoffs. If that's the goal, it's a great plan. |

Probably below average skating...
regardless... I actually think we should have been playing Ruhwedel |

I’d actually be curious to see Pettersson and Ruhwedel. They’re both two players who aren’t flashy and do their jobs. |

That would be a 3rd pair I would actually feel somewhat comfortable with...so long as JJ isn't in the top 4. |

There are just fascinating cap implications if this happens. They need to take on big money to even hit the cap floor next year.
GMJR: hey Mr. Dorion, I'm willing to part with one of our "core" defenseman in order to help you reach the cap floor. 1st round draft pick, lots of character, and signed for 4 more years! I'll take Dzingel off your hands as well. |

That is a legit good scenario for us... ignoring that we'd get anything useful back |

People have a tendency to allow elite hockey players (Sid, Geno, Kessel, Kucherov, etc.) to skew their perception of what normal top 6 production is. There’s just not enough pucks to go around that’s going to have every player on a teams top 6 be 60+ point players, especially when said top 6 players aren’t getting any significant PP time. - j.boyd919
Had no idea Simon's stats were that high. I have only watched probably 50% of pens games this season, always seems like he does nothing besides get in good position and then do nothing with the puck haha. misanalysis on my part. |

You’re not the only one. The last time we had this debate on here, I did some digging and found that Simon was also like second on the team with primary assists, so it’s not like he’s a passanger and inflating his stats with secondary apples. |

Hahah they wasn’t directly specifically at you by any means. I think they a lot of people have skewed perceptions on what top 6 production is because of the studs around the league. “If you’re not producing like Kuch, you’re not top 6.” I literally had a lightning fan tell me that once here in hockeybuzz. I like that article I linked in my reply because it actually has a good list of what production rates are for forwards on each line. It’s a little dated but scoring hasn’t changed that much since the article was written so it’s still relevant. |

What else does he need to be before you like him? - MattStrat
You know, score points lol. He very inconsistent on that front and why he should be on the third line.
Edit: actually he's just in a slump I think one assist in his last 10? IDK the whole team sucks lol |

I was listening to Madden on the way home and he was actually talking about Simon and he said it seems like Simon gets a lot of slack to stay mostly in the top 6 and Blueger gets scratched. |

He did have a huge slump, and still gets top/mid 6 time... but that entire mid 6 has slumped... soooo... hes not the only one. Teddy is getting the Cullen treatment, so Madden is a dumbass. Those are fully different situations. |

I think he was talking about the young guys though. Because we all know Cullen isn't going anywhere. |
